Ever since the first page of recorded history, music has served as an explanation for man’s well being. Music, arranged in song, has relieved many a frustrated soul from the tensions and the chaos of the outside world. It has also allowed the imagination to expand into the crevasses of the mind which have not yet been revealed due to the busy-buddy, boring, day to day routines of many citizens. The average American can say that he belongs to the middle class, that he owns two cars, and that he has 2.3 children but can he honestly say that he has the time and the imagination to fantasize and relax upon the tones of each note of a piece of music? To sit down, stretch out, and enjoy the message a song creates for us, can be an important concept in learning how to understand each other as individuals. For these reasons, the Eagle Staff has placed throughout the yearbook, titles of numerous songs. Ranging from the “oldies but goodies” up to the popular style of music that is performed today, the staff has at- tempted to show you how music is weaved through modern day activities. We hope you enjoy the yearbook that we present to you. The Eagle Staff has worked long and hard to satisfy you and we hope you find the compiled memories as re- warding as we do. Enjoy it, it’s yours. 3 Yearbook Advisor — Lloyd Wagener Layout Staff — Kim Miller, Dan Seibright, Roxanne Ensor Editor — Bcv Spertzel Senior Editor — Karen Stimer Associate Editor — Diane Myers Art Editor — Donald Summers Typing Staff — Tracy Snyder, Trostlc Sharon King, Kitty Carpenter, Kim 4 Business Editor — Connie Trimmer Ad Staff — Sonia Wolfe, Keith Searfoss, Kim Highlands, Kim Winand Copy Editor — Mary Jean Schrider Sports Staff — Greg Starncr, Vicki Anderson, Kathy Chew, Tam- my Cline Literary Staff — Judith Ensor. Lori McClain. Seglinde Nelson. Donna Hoffman 5 Priceless arcJthc moments witnessed by their parents as thej toofe their first staggard step on their inexperienced feet. Precious are the snapshots or their iixth grade commencement cxett ses. which markedjjust onfc of the many steps takCT by the inspired Seniors of 1978. But even more impoi it to the Seniors' arc hc fond memories nd exper- iences which has crilrghtencd eaffch of them to the level of intelligences and maturity that they ankat today. The Seniors, have grown in a way which wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for their failures and their friendships, their laughs and their tears, and especially their sense of belonging that B.S.H.S. has provided for them. - J Boastful is the feeling consumed fn a fathers chest as he watches his sons last football game.I Proudness is inscribed into the expression on their parents face as their son or daughter receives their diploma. As they walk through the silent halls after school, or as they look at each other through tear filled eyes at graduation, the Seniors vjH emember the contributions, the helping of a friend, or even the companionship of a teacher as they look at B.S.H.S. from a distance ... as an alumni. On behalf of our class I would like to thank the faculty, parents, advisors, and friends for all the time and effort they put forth to help us achieve our goals. As we leave Bermudian we wilt all go our separate ways in a difficult world. But in those separate ways we will all hold fond memories of twelve long but rewarding years we shared together Class President Daniel E. In some ways I’m different entirely. It’s a little sad to see children play; to think I will never again be that way. Perhaps it is the future I fear, fear of losing something of the past that is very dear. Unlike loved ones, time we cannot hold; we pass by a mirror and realize it has made us old. It’s just that the minutes, hours and days go by so fast and happy times of the present soon become the past. 26 Kathy Chew Lori McClain Keith Brodbcck Tom Lawrence Yes, it seems just like yesterday that we were small, then suddenly years come upon us and it doesn't seem like time at all. Trying so hard to keep up with today, memories of good times fading away. Growing up is hard to do when you want to enjoy life’s moments which arc so few. 1 might always be a child at heart and from that will be much harder to part. The seasons arc changing and so am I and I must begin to tell my childhood good-bye . . . Mike Moritz Kim A. Miner Denise Kemper Louann Speese Christine Davis Dorothy Dupler Sharon Hankey 27 Brad Miller Karen Stimer Donna Hoffman Most Musical While walking through the halls of the elementary school, sour notes could be heard bellowing from the music room. Yes, Brian Prosser and Diane Sebright have hit alot of clinchers in their days but through alot of hard hours of tedious work they have become ex- ceptional musicans. The band and chorus just wouldn’t be the same without their added talents and for this reason the senior class has nominated them as “Most Musical”. WHO'S WHO IN THE OF 78 l WOULDN'T W ANT TO BfCU T YO$ Most Artistic Stick figures, lollipop trees, and play-doh statues used to be the big, terrific creations of all little kids. So it was with Lori McClain and Donny Summers. But as people mellow in their age they also mellow in their tastes. Voted “Most Artistic” by the senior class, Lori and Donny have created alot of beautiful work which stands out from the ordinary. 28 Class Clowns With a twist of his face and the shriek of her laugh Marty Mummert and Kim Miller have been nominated “Class Clowns”. They can brighten up any boring class room with their lighted smiles or with their zany sense of humor. Some people were just born to make others happy and in the senior class Marty and Kim out shine the rest. Cass Flirts Once upon a time a kiss on the cheek and a love letter was every thing in the world. Voted “Class Flirts” by the senior class Tammy Cline and Steve Smith have developed the good looks and the “charming” and “debonaire” personalities that every student envies. Yes, in a certain manner of speaking they get along with everybody. Shyest It’s about as typical to see a “munchkin” hiding behind a huge flower as it is to see Judy James and Leroy Ncol hiding behind a car. Voted “Shyest” by the senior class, Judy and Leroy help make up a part of the student body that completes Bermudian. Their quite type personalities make them the kind obedient individuals that they are today. 29 Most Fun Did you ever notice that some people always make the best of everything and they have just plain fun wherever they go? Tammy Smith and Brad Miller are two of these people. By just being around them they can make your worst moods dis- appear and make your good moods ever better. Tammy and Brad most certainly are always ready to have a good time and for this reason they were named “Most Fun” inst Of7g Most Dramatic Live from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City we present to you Miss Victoria Beaver and Mr. Keith Searfoss. No, actually Vicki and Keith haven’t gone that far in acting but they have come a long way since the “kiddie” plays in elementary school. They have long entertained Ber- mudian with their talents. For this the senior class has dubbed Vicki and Keith “Most Dramatic.” Most Spirited Did you ever notice that at a pep rally or at a game there’s always a couple of voices that out yell “the rest”? Bev Spertzel and Dan Grim whether they are standing on the sidelines or participating on a team arc constantly boosting moral and high hopes. They are for ever active in sports and in school organizations and for this reason the senior class has honored Bev and Dan as “Most Spirited”. 30 Bookworms book • worm (buk wcrm), n. a person who is very fond of reading and studying; one who is al- ways pouring over books. Yes, Cindy Cooley and Rodger Hoover fit that description perfectly. They have aquired alot of their knowledge by digging into books. The senior was convinced that Cindy and Rodger have extensive “fondness” for reading books and for this reason they were worthy of the title “Bookworms.” Most Athletic Sweat, practice, and pain are just a few factors that make up a good athletic. Vickie Myers and Randy Spahr have put alot of hours of hard, constant practice into the sports pro- gram here at Bermudian. Voted “Most Athletic” by the senior class, they have developed the skill and good sports- manship conduct that makes Vickie and Randy the excep- tional athletes that they are. Most Likely To Succeed To be rich and successful is, sooner or later, the fantasy of everybody. Randy Paul and Shelley Evans have worked hard in their studies and in the community. Along with earn- ing goods and friends they have also earned the title of “Most Likely To Succeed” and I'm sure that when Randy and Shelley become rich and famous, they’ll invite you over for dinner. 31 4k, rm j HiH You know, underclassmen never really change. While there is of necessity many things in life which you must accept and do for the good of all. you need not keep pace with your fellow man in all areas. It's not only the winning that counts, it’s the satisfaction that the stu- dents gain from succeeding to do their best. We all look forward to the upcoming of our Home- coming which is brought to life by the football game and followed by the crowning of the Queen. These enjoyable moments are all closed with the Homecom- ing dance, following them, that evening. In the fall, there is also the showing of the All- School play which seems to enlighten everyone’s evening. The fall activities seem to give the students a sense of inspiration and ambition for the remainder of the year. CHANGES IN LATITUDE CHANGES IN As the homecoming festivities began, the students at Bermudian glowed with excitement for the up-coming activities. School spirit arose as each class wore their class colors and also as each class put their talents together to make signs to decorate the gym. Winners of the spirit week were as follows: Sophomores received first place in the sign contest, Juniors and Seniors tied for second, and the Freshmen received third place. Friday night was cold and chilly but it was soon warmed up by the smiles of the queen candidates, the brassy sound of the band, and by the determined foot- ball team as they paraded through the streets of York Springs and East Berlin. After the parades, the flames of the bon-fire arose. When the last cheer was performed and the last pep talk was spoken, the fans went home, anxious to see how the contests of tomorrow would turn out. Saturday began dreary and ugly but the rain soon let up as the “Mighty Eagles” marched onto the field. As halftime approached the Eagles were lead- ing with a score of 7-6. Halftime began as the queen candidates were brought onto the track in con- vertibles, decorated by each class. They were presented as follows: Tammy Cline, Dorothy Dupler, Sandy Forsythe, Lori McClain, Tracy Snyder, Sharon Speelmen, Bev Spertzel, and Karen Stimer. The candidates stood nervously be- fore the home crowd as Tracy Snyder received second runner-up; Karen Stimer, first runner-up; and Sandy Forsythe receiving the honors of queen. As halftime ended, the game soared to a smashing finish. The final score was Eagles — 14 and the Bolts — 13. It was truely the most exciting game that Bermudian had ever witnessed. On Saturday night the school shook to the tunes of “Apple Honey” as the students boogied down until their hearts were content. As the homecoming activities came to an end everyone was proud to say that they belonged to Bermudian. It was absolutely the best homecoming that Ber- mudian had ever seen. The team came out with their pride built high, fans cheering them on, and ready to show the skills and fighting power on the field. We had a few wins, but Bermudian has proven that we could play football and was able to secure a spot in the Blue Mountain League. Our players have proven their ability, when Marty Mummert was chosen for one of the top ten receivers and Doug Tosten as one of the top ten Pas- sers in the Mid State Area. Mike Stambaugh and Marty Mummert brought pride to Bermudian when they were selected as members of the Blue Moun- tain League all stars. Bermudians Football Team may not be number one this year but the team and the school have high hopes and enthusiasm for a number one team in future seasons. 91 Athletic Director William Troxell 92 9TH GRADE FOOTBALL B.S.H.S. Running, exercising, practicing every night and being loyal to the sport is an important concept to a good team. The Varsity hockey team was captained by Bev Spertzcl and was comprised of ten seniors and three juniors. Under the tough and vigorous training of coaches Kinsey, Tate and Ristine, the final tally spelled success; four wins, four ties and two losses. Speed, determination, and spirit were the trademarks of the Eagle women. The Junior Varsity led by co-captains Kim Miller and Kelly Stimer also brought home laurels for B.S.H.S. They had five wins, two ties and one loss. The season was compiled of many good hockey players which were possessed with potential for the up coming year and they should do very well.
