Ebersole Fred Eborsole Suulrt Hoffman Harry W. Guise Haiel G. Hoffman George H. Anderson Advisory Nlcmbcrs: Alford l.. Slxull Carl D. Wagner Kenneth M. Hanlfqcy Robert R. Warner john j. Brodbecl. Although often thought of in terms of masses, the population of the World really consists of individuals with common needs and concerns. lf We are to improve our world We must begin at the individuals level. Each of us must assume the re- sponsibility of using our gifts of mental ability, judgment, and energy in the most constructive Way possible, Each must keep in mind the fact that there are very few things that we do or say which do not affect others in some way. If enough individuals determine that their lives will be positive forces and live accordingly, others will be influenced in the same direction. Although the task of building a better World is large, individu- als can and must make the effort. D . L . Schaeberle Superintendent To The Class of 1971 The blame for many of the ills of our nation is laid at the feet of the youth. It is regrettable that so many good young citizens are held guilty by association. lt is for you the class of 71, who are among the silent majority, to help see that our heritage is preserved. You can do this by the positive influence which you are capable of exerting in society. Do what you must, use the established order and you will find that our democracy is flexible enough to meet your needs. Your efforts to preserve that which is good and to change that which needs changed will be rewarded. The best of luck to each of you in all your endeavors. Robert M. Nomi- nees selected by the senior class were: Sue Fridinger, Betsy Her- shey, Paula Hoffman, Donna Kemper, Diane McClain, Tammy Tan- ger, and Marie Wagner. At the hour of nine o'clock the contestants and their escorts were called to the side of the gym. Bouquets of carnations were pre- sented to each of the girls by Miss Judy Rothermel. The best part of the evening was spent congratulating the queen and dancing to the sounds of the Purple Mist . Miss Donna Kemper Miss Tammy Tanger Miss Marie Wagner N' 'FS From the beginning of creation man has tried end- lessly to create a better world for himself and his fel- lowman. Many of these great individuals have altered the course of a nation and the lives of its people. As we move through the little or long span of years which God grants us, each one of us leaves some im- pression on his surroundings. Some of us are petty, selfish, insensible. We pass unnoticed, unloved, unmourned leaving little or no creativity to mak- ing a better world. Some leave a deeper mark, a cruel scar, which no man or period of time can efface. Others are well-known, greatly loved and deeply mourned. The names of men with a dream like Martin Lu- ther King, with a purpose like Robert Francis Kennedy, and with courage like Dwight David Eisenhower will be remem- bered. The mark these men made on our world will endure. All three employed their ta- lents selflessly, their energies fearlesslyg all three lived for the betterment of their fellow- man. Theirs were impressions of love. They have left us an exam- ple that as we pass, we too must join others in a creative, collective, and courageous effort to mark our world for the better. We must be creative in dis- covering new solutions for new and real problems, not hiding our heads in a make-believe sand of a feigned love and a search for peace. We must act collectively, joining hands with our fellow-men who are sincerely seeking solutions to these same problems. Finally, we must be coura- geous, first in being sincere with ourselves, judging our own motives, then in attempt- ing to arouse the apathetic to action, and to calm the violent The Eagle is one book which we hope will always re- mind you of the many good and worthwhile efforts put forth by the students, parents, and faculty to help add a suc- cessful rung to the unending ladder of MAKING A BETTER WOR LD. Our Lives Begin And End As All Things Do, But What ls In The Sun Belongs To You. ln our growing world today there are many more problems than solutions. Some of these problems such as: the war, drugs, crime, population, and pollution will not be able to be solved by a few individuals, but with an all out effort from everyone across this great country. Now that our years at Bermudian are coming to an end, we will hopefully be able to face these problems with the training and guidance that we have acquired these past years. There will be times in our lives when we will be able to use our training to overcome our weaknesses and strive to our goals of life. And also we will be able to pass our experiences and guidance down to our children, hoping they will not be stricken with so many problems as of today. As president of the class of nineteen hun- dred and seventy-one, l would like to express my deepest appreciation to our teachers, pa- rents, and everyone who has contributed to our education and fond memories these past years at Bermudian. ln years to come we will be able to look back to the good and the bad times with few regrets. The contestants were: Dorothy Hayes, Deb Moritz, Tammy Tanger, Marie Wagner, and Viv Wickline. Finally 9:00 came, and this customary dance held by the Stage Crew was about to have a new queen. The moments of anticipation were growing stronger as the judge announced the second runner-up, Dee Hayes, with a round of applause we moved on to the first runner-up, Marie Wagner. Then the great moment came when the new queen, Deb Moritz was announced. Deb was crowned by last years Sweetheart Queen, Bonnie Tate. After the queen and her court posed for pictures, there was a special dance for the honored queen and court. But of course all good things must come to an end and we all left with the memories of a most enjoyable evening. GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES, the Senior class play was presented on February 6, l97l. The plot centered around the misadventures of two un- chaperoned teenage girls, Lorelei and Dorothy on their way to and in Paris. These two studious young ladies hoped to further their education by acquaint- ing themselves with the country and its inhabitants Cespecially the menb. But on the way over Lorelei met an eligible man, Henry Spoffard lll, who was the son of an eccentric millionaire. She at once begins a lasting friendship which ended in marriage. Alas, Doro- thy was still unproposed to, but decided any man is better than no man at all and accepted a proposal. With the aid of the entire cast, the stagecrew, Mr. Wagener and the dili- gent directresses, Mrs. joan Wolfe and Miss Christine Roelker, the one night play was a success. Oh, the Pain- This year the Sr. Chorus tried their hand at a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, The Pirates of Penzance , which revolves around young Frederic who was accidentally apprenticed to be a pirate instead of a pilot by his nurse, Ruth. The performance was held at 8:00 on March 26 and 27. Directed by Mr. Matt Rosendahl, Technical Director, Mr. Lloyd Wagener, Costume De- sign, Mrs. jane Lerch. The Cast. We kneel to conquer l'm getting dizzy again. The Junior Class Play On April 29th and May lst the junior Class presented their play, entitled THE STUCK POT. The story revolved around a dance at a girls school. In the first act, Alice Ann and some of her friends find out that the boys at jason, the guest school, have a stuck pot for the boy who gets stuck with the worst looking girl at the dance. Infuriated they start their own to get back at them. At the dance the girls each have their own way of making themselves unat- tractive. Alice has gone so far as to put hydrogen sulfide on herself. Later she meets Edward Mott and they instantly like each other, despite of the smell. During the dance, Headmaster Dr. Jacoby is about to call off the dance when Mr. and Mrs. Sedgewick enter. Upon smelling Alice they decide to take her out of school. However, they change their minds the next day when they find out Edward's father is Dr. Sedgewick's boss. After the curtain closed all who were involved in the play had many happy memories to cherish. Volleyball l 972 The girls volleyball team consisted of four teams of six girls each rather than the usual 2 teams. We played six games, the varsity winning two of them On the surface the game appears rather easy to play, but in an exciting game it is just as enduring as any sport in which the team is under pressure. The enthu- siasm for this sport was overwhelming. Girls Volleyball Team ROW 1 D Moritz, S Weigle, K. Smiley, R. Miller, P. Juliana, D. Mummert, J Kemper ROW 2 B Myers, R Eichelberger, J Herman, 1. S.H.S. , the track team has been winning track meets. Mr. Bair, head coach, and Mr. Bortorff, his assistant, are pleased that interest in track has steadily improved and that more athletes are trying out for the team. This year sporting a record of 4-5, the team has set new school records in the discus, triple jump, high hurdles, and the two mile relay. S.H.S. have built up quite a reputation, and anything less than a championship is considered a below average season. The baseball teams this year have played good ball but lacked the right bounces for another outstanding season. But with the coaching of Mr. Weigle and Mr. Fisher and the return of many lettermen, the team will surely have a good future. VARSITY BASEBALL TEAM lst ROW: D. Trostle, D. Trimmer, D. Reinecker, W.
