It has been your lot to grow up in times of uncertainty and confusion. As never before, bitterly divergent political and economic doctrines struggle to prevail. Very soon each of you will share the awesome responsibility of defending civilization against those who would retard it. But there are great new opportunities. Yours will be the age of space travel, nuclear energy, electronic computers, and devices beyond imagination. In the turbulence there is promise; in every challenge a reward. The cynic has called commencement a time of trite platitudes and dull bromides. This is not so. Remember and cherish this graduation day foras long as you live- let it inspire you to high attainment as you take your place in society. To our graduates of 1962, most sincere congratulations! Albert S. Townsend, President 14
