iN3saad PAST 1961 R E F L E C T O R PRESENTED BY SENIOR CLASS OF BERMUDIAN SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL FOREWORD Bermudian Springs High School is standing at the threshold of a bright future. The in- spiration and fortitude symbolized by the eagle and brought to the fore through a joint effort of administration and student body is indeed a non-paralleled example of firm dedication. Although we of the class of 1961 are leaving to make our ways in the world, we retain the loyalty towards our alma mater for these rewarding years. Bermudian Springs, we salute thee. TABLE OF CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION SENIORS UNDERCLASSMEN ACTIVITIES ATHLETICS SPONSORS Dedication Sas Berlin JJork Sprinqs 8 Dedication With great expectations as to what the future will hold, we dedi- cate this Reflector to the communities of East Berlin and York Springs. The sacrifices and toil of each in a consolidation of efforts to effect the building of a new high school will indeed be a boon to the education of its students and their posterity. By forgetting past differences they have accomplished much in the way of progress for the benefit of the youth of both areas. It is in deep appreciation that we dedicate this book to them. I think this education is needed now, for you young people, more than at anytime in the history of our country. I am sure that you will all put to good use the precious things you have learned from your capable faculty. Your school district has worked hard and has made many vital decisions to provide better educational facilities for the students of this jointure. We have finally reached a great goal, that of providing a new elementary building and a new high school building. We expect to start this new system by putting these buildings to use January 27, 1961. On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Bermudian Springs joint Scaool District, I offer our sincere best wishes for the future. 12 Richard E. Hoffman Joint Board President Principals TO THE CLASS OF 1961: Congratulations to each of you upon your graduation from the Bermudian Springs High School! Your community has made an investment in you by providing the facilities and the per- sonnel to give you a public school education. Now, you will have the opportunity to demon- strate that this investment on your behalf is appreciated. We, the faculty and administrators of the school, hope that our efforts to stimulate your desire to learn will bear fruit in your lives. We will follow your progress with keen interest throughout the years to come. Amos D. Meyers Supervising Principal We live in a state of evolution. No society today continues in a completely stagnated form. Our society probably has as many changes as any other society known to us. You, the class of 61, are part of this society and will be for many years to come. Some of you have completed your formal education while others of you will continue to prepare for your future in institutions of higher learning. These preparations will enable you to grow and serve in our society for the better- ment of you as an individual and mankind as a whole. We of the faculty are proud that we have had a part in your preparation and will always remain available to help you. The best to you, the class of 61. Alfred R. Billett Principal 13 'Jaculfy Dean A. Krall The 1960-61 basketball season for the Bermudian Springs Eagles posed them as a like- ly threat to the Adams County division of the Adams-Franklin Basketball Conference. With the return of five capable, experienced boys Coach Murphy had the nucleus of a po- tentially well rounded ball club. Also within his group was the 1959-60 Jr. Varsity Champ- ionship Team which was expected to contribute much to the sound functional squad. The beginning of the season will find the Eagles opening the first game with Dover High School on the East Berlin court. By the half way mark the Eagles should be on their newly constructed basketball court, which has a seating capacity of 700 spectators. With a combined effort of a fine prospective team and a spirited cooperative student body the Eagles should prove to be quite a test for any team that opposes them this season. 91 y.V. I hope that sawdust is soft”. The Bermudian Springs High School fielded its first Track and Field Squad in the history of the jointure. The squad was composed of only twelve members but what we lacked in quantity was made up in quality and hard work. Although not winning a duel meet in three tries and not scoring in the Shippensburg College Invitational Meet, the team gave evidence of better things to come. With added depth in the future Bermudian Springs will field squads that should become second to none in the area. As evidence to the ability of the boys, every record set by the previous teams representing the two schools, except the mile run, was broken. 96 '6ra c6 L. Ne i man K. Taylor L.
