You, the graduates, wiU be walking down many different ave- nues of endeavor; we hope you will follow the road that leads to success. To each of you we extend our wishes for a happy and re- warding future. The pattern of tomorrow will he affected by our life today and all the yesterdays Dedic itcoH The class of 1962 dedicates this yearbook to MLss Alma Powers and Mr. Richard Pinette for their long services to Berlin High School, for their helpful encouragement to the students, both this year and in past years. Shepherd -Grissom - Glenn. These men made world headlines in the early years of the 1960 ' s. Their ac- complishments advanced the technological knowledge of the world far beyond the imagination of early man. Their efforts required unusual self-sacrifice and determination and an enormous amount of cour- age. Historians relate that progress has been made through the pioneer efforts of individuals very si- milar to the astronautsmen in character and purpose with strong convictions and by men anxious to make the world a better place in which to live. In an era of our history, when at times it is dif- ficult for a person to feel that he counts for much as an individual, the accomplishments of the space- men can serve as a guiding light. They have shown, beyond anj ' doubt, that the success of a team effort depends to a great degree upon individual endeavor. Not everyone can contribute to the betterment of man and society in a manner similar to that of the astro- nauts. However, today ' s high school graduate is completing the first phase of formal education in a time of universal world crises. If we are to survive as a nation, we need individuals who can think clear- ly and logically, who have a deep sense of purpose, and who possess the ability to react to situations in a responsible manner. It is my hope that you - the graduates of the Class of 1962 - are prepared to face the challenges of the future and to accept your share of responsibility to see that our community, state, and nation are made better and stronger through your individual efforts. I liope tliat as each day passes, you will be able to analyze carefully your actions of that day and ar- rive at the conclusion that your efforts have help ed achieve this goal. On behalf of the faculty I extend our best wishes for success and happiness. Superintendent of Schools LAWRENCE DWYER Standing left to right -. The Class of i9oZ irom x5eriin High cicnooi is gatnered at (Jape Canaveral tor a very important event. One of our former classmates has just returned from the I ' ia- net fcjaturn atier being up there for aunost three days. He is the first asirouaut to land sareiy on the Planet ISaturn and we certainly are proud of him. He IS none other than our own George Kelly. We are having a party for him tonignt at the swanky Hotel at. Cyr. This swanky, nearby hotel is owned ana operated by David St. Cyr, who owns a chain of these beautiful resorts. Sitting at the head table with our famous astro- naut is that charming personality of a gentleman, Harvey Elger, who once greatly enlightened the halis of Berlin High School. He is now the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, and I hear he has the world ' s problems well in hand. With him is his lovely Japanese wife, Princess 0-AIi-Kan-B. Kathy Seaborne is also here. She is now a POD teacher in Weliesley, Massachusetts. She and Mary Ann Drouin haven ' t seen each other since high school. Mary Ann has been kept busy being the secretary and wife of a Berlin contractor. Martha Peloquin, owner of a perfume factory, has currently returned from a tour of Europe with her family. Her chief chemist is Sharon Gallant. Together they have made a mint spreading the es- sences of their Oriental perfumes over the world. Kenny Gendron, owner of a factory which manu- factures shocks and springs for cars, is among the guests of the evening. Eichard Langlois is information collector for the Britannica Encyclopedia Company. He is demurely dressed in a tuxedo with high hat and cane. Earle (Chink) Chamberlain still visits people very, very early in the morning on his usual milk route. I hear he has designed a new milk bottle with a pitcher shaped neck for easy pouring. How unique! Another man who has done very well in the design- ing field is none other than Kevin Hughes. Kevin has designed that marvellous new wallpaper with the pink stripes on an orange back-ground with yellow polka-dots. Doug Parrington is still up in Berlin trying to soup up his 1957 Oldsmobile. Pete Hauser, the President ' s chief assistant in economics, has developed a new non-inflammable substance which is going to be used on every article manufactured in the United States in ordei; to pre- vent any major fires. The United States has recently been put back into a state of tranquility since Donald Henderson, Dog- catcher General, placed behind bars those notorious and infamous personalities, Judna Ghadnit and Dondy Fliwick. For this reason he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The Federal Government has been keeping this as quiet as possible but I have a sneaking suspicion ! Robert Gnay is busy trying to replace the worn out main Bomp in the Bompa-bompbompbomp. Alison Campbell is now a research technician for Colgate trying to find out what Pepsodent did with the yellow. We have just noticed something strange about one of the guests gathered here tonight. Alfred Golden- berg is under the table snapping pictures of legs. He is now the leading photographer for Play Boy magazine. lEloide Beroney is now a member of the Zonibee Jamboree doing the famous Banana Dance. Mary Jensen works for Jack Frost designing ' pil- low padded seat women ' s ski clothes. Carline Ilayiier belongs to that charming group of ladies from Rockerfelier Center Music Hall, The Roekettes. They are among the entertainers here to- night. Bonnie Lizotte is one of the world ' s few women lawyers. Together with her secretary, Pat Lane, she has been at famous trials all over the world. Ronnie Lamongtagne has done very well as a math teacher at Cornell University. Bobbie Hood is one of our guests here tonight. I understand that Bobbie has patched up more people in her line of work. She is a doctor at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Dickie Belanger is also among our guests tonight. Dick and Chester Eames are now in the manufactur- ing field. I hear that they have designed a new car which contains guaranteed indestructible motors and transmissions. Louis Michaud has broken all records skating for the Maple Leafs of Toronto, Canada. His great scoring ability has Avon him fame. Kathy Harvey is here tonight. She is a model now for the famous clothes designer, Wanda Dupuis. Dick Blanchette is now a salesman for Chevrolet in San Francisco, California. Dick has made some great improvements in this car, which is now on the top selling list. Miss Bonnie Oleson is now making movies for the new S. W. Studios in Gatesville, Texas. The stu- dios are run by Mr. Stephen Woodward, and he and Miss Oleson with her sweet, charming, Scottish smile have made millions for the two. Maurice Bailey and Billy Dube split up soon after high school. Maurice is now up in Gorhani teaching driver training while Billy is the sole owner of the world ' s largest plant manufacturing Volkswagons. Mr. Arthur Lizie is a leading guest here tonight. Cukie is quite a big wheel out in Reno, Nevada now. We have no idea what kind of monkey business he is up to, but the new cadillac, equipped with a chauffeur, and two charming young ladies that he drove into town in yesterday certainly made an im- pression on us. So did the black top coat, hat, and sun glasses. The extra-curricula activities in high school must have paid off for Cu. Carlton Holt is certainly doing well for his coun- try. He has been experimenting in a submerged sub- marine for seven years now. Carlton always did like to fish. His chief assistant is Roger Pelletier, who insisted on taking four dogs, ten cats, and two mice down with him. Wonder what they are doing??!? Here comes Jo-Ann Eastman. Jo-Ann is one of the world ' s most famous hair stylists. Right now she is top hair stylist for MGM Studios in Hollywood. Eddie Smith is still up to his old tricks. Last spring he won the Indianapolis 500. His racing ability cer- tainly has improved in the past ten years. Why there is Francis Murphy! He plays end on the New York Giants Football Team. I hear he was chosen all American player last year. Gloria Bellemore is also here. Rumor says that she has been kept quite busy keeping the Berlin Maroons in skating equipment. She also keeps time of all pe- nalties in the penalty box. Albert Aubin is still showing his passive resistance against graduation bj ' retaining his position on top of the flag pole in front of the Berlin High School. Leo Croteau is among the more talented guests here tonight. He recently had the honor of winning the Nobel Prize for Literature for his book The In- side Look on Greek Philosophy. Donny Glover is on the corner of Broadway and Fifth Avenue trying to sell his economical potatoes that are as big as watermelons. Donny has done very well in the agricultural field since he left high school. Kenny Patterson is one of our entertainers here tonight. Ken is famous the world over for his great performance on TV. He has one of the best ear wig- gling acts we know of. George Carter is the chief bar tender at the famous ' ' Brown Derby ' ' restaurant in Hollywood, California. Paul Cote is flying commercial airlines back and forth to the Moon. He flew 4,569 passengers to the Moon last week for their vacations. His pretty air- line hostess is Darlene Hart. Circling among the guests is Lillian Michaud. She is known as the second Elsa Maxwell, as she gives some of the most important parties in the U.S. Sue Carroll is now the editor of the Manchester Union Leader. She is well known for her editorals, which are short and to the point. Donald Vachon, with his magnetic belt, is washing windows on the Empire State Building. We hope for Donald ' s sake that no one turns off the current. Marshall Santy is seen quite frequently on TV. lie gives the weather report from the moon each night at 6:00 p.m. Pliil Raj-sys has quite a business. Every morning Phil climbs into his special transport jet and speeds milk to the overcrowded surrounding cities. Bob Tennis keeps wide awake each day as he is the chief coffee taster for Chase Sanborn, Inc. Gerard Pinette recently won a jumping award ia the Olympics. His skiing ability can be surpassed by no one. Bob Drouin is now a salesman for Royal Crown. He has traveled tlie world over selling liis products. David Oleson, wlio is the announcer Iiere tonight, has just made the final announcement for the eve- ning. He is now the disc-jockey for American Band- stand. The final entertainment for the evening is just beginning. The entertainer is none other than Wil- liam Southerland. His one-man comedy act has been the talk of Broadway for quite a few years. Yes, the Class of 1962 has done very well in these past ten j-ears. And as band strikes up the last num- ber, we are all looking forward to our next reunion in 1987. i(U i ton In order that you may be more acquainted with the Senior Class, we are going to give you a few statistics. FRESHMAN YEAR Who will ever forget that day in September in 1958 when 103 lively boys and girls walked through the doors of the Berlin Junior High School? Our teachers in that freshman year v ill certainly never forget. We were in a daze most of the time, but finally set- tled down to business ; election came around and those elected were Donna Chadwick, President; Roland Patrick, Vice-President; Kathy Seaborne, Secretary- Treasurer. After Christmas we elected Janet Farrington as our candidate for the Winter Carnival. We worked very hard, sold tickets and had a game set up between the Faculty and the Varsity (MEATBALL) Basket- ball Team, what a game ! Despite our efforts we were defeated by the sophomore class. Later it was announced that the winners of the A- merican Legion Citizenship Awards were Bonnie Lizotte and Freddy Toll. We certainly were proud of them. Thus, our freshman year came to a close, and as June came, we were all looking anxiously to- ward our sophomore year when we would be in the senior high at last. SOPHOMORE YEAR Our sophomore year started off with a swing and a bang. By now we were in the swing of things and knew (at least we thought we did) just what we were going to do. We quickly settled down and went to work. For our officers this year, we elected President, Henry Arsenault; Vice-President, Donna Chadwick; Secretary-Treasurer, Eileen Mulroney; and Student Representative, Kathy Seaborne. Our queen candidate was Eileen Mulroney but we were defeated by the champions, the juniors. Many of the students proved themselves by being elected or nomininated to various organizations in school, namely to Key Club to which four were elected, and to the Meteor and Advertising Staff, eight. We had boys on the Varsity Football, Hockey, Ski, and Bas- ketball Teams. As our sophomore year came to a close, we discov- ered to our astonishment that we had reached the half way mark in our high school careers. Little did w« know that the next two years would be even busier. JUNIOR YEAR Well here we were ; half way there and what a year this turned out to be ! Again as in the past we elected our able class representatives, our President, Kathy Seaborne; Vice-President, Mary Ann Drouin; Stud- ent Council, Donna Chadwick. We had a great deal ahead of us, especially the Junior Play and the an- nual Junior Prom. We were very proud when Gloria Bellemore, Mary Ann Drouin, Bonnie Lizotte, Bon- nie Oleson, Kevin Hughes, and Sue Carroll were e- leeted to the National Honor Society. Kevin Hughes and George Carter were elected to the National Thespians; also Bonnie Lizotte, Bonnie Oleson, Bobbie Hood, Ricliard Langiois, and Harvey Elger. Bobbie Hood was our candidate for tlie Winter Carnival. Time flew and finally it was time for the annual Junior Play. We selected a three act play entitled: Dino which was presented on April 8. Richard Blanchette played the title role. It was a great success. After the play we anxiously awaited the Junior Prom. Bonnie Oleson was the Junior Prom Queen, and she certainly made a beautiful one. Sue Carroll, Sharon Gallant, George Kelley, and Stephen Woodward were our representatives at Boys ' and Girls ' State. Again this year we were re- presented on the many teams and in the different clubs and organizations. Finally, it was June and every one was anxious for fall to come. SENIOR YEAR Our senior year was the year that started off with the greatest anticipation. It just didn ' t seem possible that this would be our last year at Berlin High School. We knew that we would be very busy, so we got off to a good start by selecting our class officers: President, Donald Henderson; Vice-Presi- dent, Arthur Lizie; Secretary-Treasurer, Mary Ann Drouin; Student Council, Sue Carroll and Donna Chadwick. Winter was soon on us and it was time for the Winter Carnival. Lillian Michaud was our queen candidate. The Senior Class seem to back her to the fullest. Never was there such class spirit. Al- though she did not become queen, she showed won- derful sportsmanship, and the class was pleased that she won runner-up lionors. The seniors did not have a Senior Play, but instead had an all-school play with the leading role played by our own Bon- nie Lizotte. The play, which was entitled Higli Ground, was one of the most successful plays done in Berlin High School. The honor students of the Senior class were- Bonnie Lizotte, Highest General Scholarship; Gloria Bellemore, Commercial; Bonnie Oleson, College Preparatory; Chester Eames, Mechanical Arts. This year Mary Ann Drouin won the Betty Crocker A- ward. Now as we are at the end of our high school years, we can look back on the fun of the past and look forward to the future with even greater anti- cipation. ;4wci tcU The medal which is presented by Rensselaer Alumni Associa- tion, Inc. to the boy in the senior class doing the best work in mathematics and science during his four year course was awarded to Stephen Woodward. A Certificate of Merit was awarded to Arthur Lizie for excel- lence in French. The Honorary Science Award of a bronze medal which is pre- sented by Bausch and Lomb Optical Company to the member of the graduation class who has shown greatest progress in scienti- fic studies was awarded to Kathy Seaborne. The faculty award to the senior boy and girl who have given outstanding service to the school and community was won by George Carter and Bonnie Oleson. Same ' ' Same cC tce- LAST WILL AND We, the Class of 1962, of Berlin High School, in the City of Berlin, County of Coos, and the State of New Hampshire, being of sound mind, memory, and understanding, do make our last will and testa- ment in the manner and form as follows: To the JUNIORS we leave Mr. Wagner and all his advice at Winter Carnival time. To the SOPHOMORES we leave the fond memo- ries of our junior play, hoping theirs will be as memorable. To the FRESHMEN we leave the Senior High School knowing it will be in good hands. MAURICE BAILEY leaves the library with its many books and plants to Dick Brady, the caretaker for 1963. ROBERT DROUIN and HARVEY ELGER leave the co-captainship of the B.H.S. hockey team to Way- ne Thompson and Sam Paquette, hoping they will lead to victory in the New Hampshire State Champ- ionship Tournament. Gerry Strout is the proud recipient of the pleasu- re of using the Ditto Machine; GLORIA BELLE- MORE is only too glad to make her happy. EARL CHAMBERLAIN and PHIL RASYS leave their milk routes to any juniors who can get up ear- ly enough to hold the job. KATHY SEABORNE leaves her homeroom seat in 212 to Lorraine Duquette so Mrs. Buckley can try to change her mind about chewing gum. Thanks to AL GOLDENBERG, Malcolm Enman now has a parking place on Cate ' s Hill for Friday nights, and an open road to L ' il Abner ' s on Satur- day nights. The cellar parties for next year ' s Winter Carni- val must be held at the home of Geraldine Strout, for this is the wish of L0VI8 MICHAVD. ROBERTA CARROLL leaves the Tatler in the capable hands of Anna Fournier and John Stanley. John Ramsay is left the responsibility of keeping an eye on the opposite sex at Notre Dame, for RON- ALD LAMONTAGNE wants to rest assured that they are carefully watched. ARTHUR LIZIE and HARVEY ELGER leave all their gay evenings and happy memories to aU the juniors who can stand them. PATTY LANE leaves her homeroom seat in 212 and her extensive P.O.D. notes to Paula Sausville, while SHARON GALLANT leaves Mary Ann Mas- sey to carry on her tradition in P.O.D. CHESTER EAMES is only too willing to leave Da!e Grover in charge of the |Errol bus line. Ben Gallant should be pleased to hear that he is receiving a complete set of written instructions on How to Make Smoke Signals from BILLY DUBE. But that ' s not all! There ' s a Bunsen burner to go with them. BONNIE OLE SON leaves her Junior Prom crown to this year ' s Prom Queen. ROGER PELLETIER leaves tlie Linotype ma- chine in the capable hands of the capable junior who gets to run it capably next year! ROBERT TENNIS finally leaves B.H.S., and ALBERT AUBIN hopes he can leave with him. ELOIDE BERONEY leaves her typewriter in Office Practice to Viola Jones on the condition that she take good care of it. The following items have been left to Dave Mac Leod: WILLIAM SOUTHERLAND ' S noon seat at the Submarine, DICK BLANCHETTE ' S shifting lever, linkage, and burnt valve, plus DOUGLAS FARRINGTON ' S Plymouth manifold for two earbs. JUDY FLINT and DONNA CHADWICK leave the stores around school with a surplus of tuna fish. JUDY also wants to leave her field hockey stick to Janet Farrington. JOANNE EASTMAN leaves her bottle of hydro- gen peroxide to Helen Arsenault. MARSHALL 8ANTY leaves his lady-killing ways to Stewart Currier, whether or not he needs them. Helen LaPete should be first in line for DAVID ST. CYR ' S P.O.D. tests. ALISON CAMPBELL leaves her long black hair to Helen Arsenault so that she will no longer have to set it every night. Since STEPHEN WOODWARD holds the record in Chemistry, he leaves all his wonderful marks to John Stanley. EDWARD SMITH takes with him everything he can hold onto. BONNIE LIZOTTE leaves Gerry Strout to buy Savings Stamps, count money, and type for Miss Powers. Oh, by the way, she must remember to open the School Bank every day. TESTA MENT As a favor to Susan Dumont, GLOBIA BELLEMOBE wishes to leave her simple hairdo. KEN PATTEBSON leaves the ability to tickle the keys of the school organ to any junior who thinks he can tackle it. DONALD VACHON is also concerned with keys-- those of the school carry-all go to Bill Lawson. Betty Wheeler will have a pillow to cushion her falls next year on the basketball court, thanks to MABY JENSEN. BOBEBTA HOOD just can ' t decide what she wants to leave, but when she does, Sharon Lambert is sure to get it. DAVID OLESON leaves his coveralls to any jun- ior they will cover. Paul Chabot is the happy recipient of MAUBICE BENNETT ' S early morning jaunts. If Alfred Cabral can find all the tools that belong in GEBABD PINETTE ' S tool box, he can have it. Since BOBBY TENNIS is leaving B. H. S. thLs year, BONNIE OLESON feels that Sandy Tennis should invite someone to live with her. Providing slie does this, BONNIE LIZOTTE and OLESON are wil- ling to leave them all the memories they have of the last three years. MABY ANN DBOUIN leaves Heidi Wagner to get what she left hanging in a tree at Gorham Hole last summer. BICHABD BELANGEB leaves his hot Merc to anybody who can afford to fix it up and buy rubber for it. BOB DBOUIN also wants to leave Paul Tardiff the spray deodorant that Louis Thibeault left him. A note is attached saying Use it sparingly and maybe you can leave it to someone next year. To the President of the Class of ' 63 go all the trou- bles, worries, and decisions of a senior class pre- sident with the best wishes of DONALD HENDEBSON. LILLIAN MICHAUD, who hasn ' t discovered the meaning of the Pseudo-Psychologist Association, is leaving its Presidency to Cheryl Shepard, hoping she will be able to figure it out. Thanks to BICHABD LANGLOIS, Eddie Oleson is receiving a pair of Lund Adult Recreational skiis with which to win the State Giant Slalom Champion- ship, next year. LEO CBOTEAU leaves the Projection Room to next year ' s sixth period English class. CABLTON HOLT leaves all his psychology and sociology notes, tests, and papers to any junior taking the course next year. These will help prevent writer ' s cramp. The quiet ways of DABLENE HABT are left to Helen McLain, so she won ' t get into trouble with the teachers next year. Cynthia Hawkins is receiving the blarney that Elaine Wilson left to KEVIN HUGHES that Sharon Hughes had left to her. FBANCIS MUBPHY leaves all his books to the first person who wants them. CABLINE BAYNEB leaves her nursing aspira- tions to Diane Valliere. KENNETH GENDBON leaves aU his car troubles to Wayne Thompson if he wants them ; but DONALD GLOVE B, who has no car troubles, leaves the East Milan Road to Kip Flint. Mrs. Buckley should be glad to know that GEOBGE KELLEY is finally leaving her in peace. However, GEOBGE secretly hopes some junior will carry on his tradition . DONNA and JUDY have one more request; they want to make sure that Mr. Hughes and Mr. Kneeland are left with peace and quiet. BOBEBT GUAY leaves Paul Chabot to clean up the Auto Mechanics shop next year, but since PETEB HAUSEB is leaving the road between Jefferson and Berlin wide open for Squeak Frenette, Squeak should arrive in plenty of time to help Paul. Susan Dumont will have to fight the snowball raids on the way home from school all alone next year, be- cause WANDA DUPUIS is leaving her to do just that. MABTHA PELOQUIN is leaving approximately eight inches to Claire Poulin. This way, they will be able to talk almost on the level. PAUL COTE leaves his brilliant mind to Everett Mason to help him out in shop. Judy Grover ' s worries are over, because she now has in her possesion long nails and polish with kind wishes from KATHEBINE HABVEY. The Class of 1962 hopes the faculty will always re- member us just the way we are, for we are sure we have left many memories. Let us not forget GEOBGE CABTEB. He feels he can leave as soon as all the unfinished business is finished. 4 s m % ACTIVITIES I STUDENT COUNCIL eatetl: Judy Porsson, Sandra Elger, Donna lazzard, Donald Henderson, Donna Chadwick. leraldine Strout and Sue Carroll. tanding: Joey Israel, Penny Brungot, Kirkland loss, Robert Morris, Cheryl Shepard, Mr. Ed. )le8on.
