This truly represents a pioneer effort. The publication could not have been possible without resourcefulness and hard Work upon the part of students and faculty advisors. This enterprise represents a challenge which has been met successfully. It also reveals a lesson by showing that ideas can become realities through hard work. The book will give pleasure to many people now and will provide pleasant memories for the years ahead. This is a job Well done. My best Wishes for a future of accomplishment and happiness go out to all members of the graduating class. Prcsiclcnfs Message We, the class of 1959, will soon be taking the first really important step of our lives, that of graduation from High School. To many it will mean the end of formal education, while to others it will signify the beginning of advanced learning in colleges and universities. Regardless of our future plans, it would be well for all of us to realize that within a few short years, the responsibility of maintaining our free society will rest upon the shoulders of our generation. Only by facing up to this responsibility and continually working to improve our minds, will we be capable of existing as a free people in the unsettled world of today. Ten long years have passed and an invi- tation has been extended to the entire class of 1959 to attend the annual Knickerbocker Ball. Everyone has arrived and our most successful party ever is in full swing. For entertainment we have Ella Mullins and Marlene Berquist, well known actresses who are now residing in Hollywood. To bring back old memories, Dr. Robert Catello has volunteered to render various solo selections on his jazzy trumpet. Assisting Wayne Ledger as host, is his most likeable manager Big Denny Toll. In talking to Denny we find that our former basketball players have taken various paths in life. Fred Murphy is now a general in the U. S. army. George Williams is sporting bell-bottom trousers in the Navy, and our record breaking young man Gary Boire, along with the able assistance of Beverly Bisson, have made their first million. Leading the Grand March are two capable and cers, Sue Carbonneau and Bogie Gilbert. Sue is now an instructor atadance studio, and Bois a suc- cessful aeronautical engineer. Next in line are Mr. and Mrs. Gene Serafin. Gene is an officer in the Coast Guard and his wife Judy is as happy as ever. Fol- lowing are Mary and Dick Tondreau, managers for branches of the Dupont Corporation. As our grand march comes to an end and our first dance of the evening begins, we notice Jone Onofrio and Ralph Thurston whose engagement took place in 1959. They have still set no date for the wedding. A well-known socialite is Doreen Allen, a former nurse, who is accompanied by the governor of New York. Her gown is designed by Carol Lee Woodward, who has completed a trip around the world. Doreen's hair was styled by Beverly Halvor- son, Hollywood's outstanding and talented beauty- expert. CLASS PRQPHECY Louise Berthiaume, who is now a social study teach- er, is accompanied by Bob Hamlin Whois still in need of a nurse, Doris Grover. We found that our Miss Preen had given up her job as nurse for good. Sitting in the dining room we find Donald Bilodeau who is a marine commissioner, Robert Frechette an engineer, Stevie Marois and David Hanson army officers, and John Lebrecque, Norman Eames, Richard Duchesne, Ronnie Grover, William Burns, and Walter Beroney now mechanics for the Chrysler Corporation, eating fried chicken in order to bring back memories of the Junior play party. Maurice Delisle is their most efficient waiter. Robert Gallant, who in the past was aeronautical engineer, is now doing rocket research for the gov- ernment. Cheryl Palmer is his efficient secretary. Bob tells us that Gerry Belliveau was the first fel- low to purchase a ticket for a trip to the moon. Jimmy Eadie and Larry Vautour are now co- owners of the Stowe, Vt. Ski area. Employed as their secretaries are Mary Mann and Cecile Nolan. Traveling from her home in Europe, we have Gail Hawkins who has established a rest home in Tongo for tired West Point cadets. Her exquisite hair is styled by Pat Vashon. Escorting Gail is Joseph W. DeRosier, a well-known business ad- ministrator for the Hazel Bishop Corporation. He has brought along his personal barber and his tai- lor, Richard Dubois and Jimmy Calaman. Denis Lizotte who is a driver in the Indiannapolis 500 race has, in his employ, two top-notched mechanics, Denis Chabot and Robert Dalphonse. One fellow who can never seem to catch up with Denis is Reggie Grover, who is always tailing along behind with his truck. The girls who insisted on Wearing their Air Force uniform rather than the traditional gown are Janice Clough and Lorraine Arsenault. They sure must love military life and its routine. They arrived at the party with Wilfred Bigl, a lieutenant-colonel in the Air Force. Our host has spotted an attractive looking couple, air-line hostess Ann Carter, and her escort Eddie Oliver, a pilot for American Airlines. Robert Lavoie and Danny Bernier are owners of a garage in Florida. Working under them as me- chanics are George Cloutier and Chet Thompson. A prominent librarian comes it view. She is Ro- berta Donahue, who traveled from Texas with Ro- salie Nelson and Marguerite Verratti, partners of a beauty salon. Roberta is discussing a new book on family living with Ramona Hart, Nancy Mortenson, Ruth Hawkins, Peggy Moore, and Blaine Farrar. Mary Finnson and Beverly Laflamme have received their R. N. degree in nursing. Traveling with them is the millionaire, Helene Valliere. Our Hollywood bachelor from the Senior Play, none other than Don Miner, has renounced fame and fortune to become the owner of New England's largest supermarket. He still sports a tan Caddie, Coming to the ball from the south we have Pat McGillen, that girl who started as a waitress and worked her Way to become owner of the famous resort in Florida, The Versailles. In talking to Pat We find that Eddie Blake and Donald Anderson, who have tired of skiing, are now vacationing at her resort, where they have taken up swimming, Pat also tells us that Rene Chabot, a well-known baseball player is in Florida for spring practice. Seen with Rene was Jim I-lalroyd, football coach for U. C. L. A. Menus for this fabulous party have been printed and given free of charge by the co-owners of a New York printing firm, none other than McKay and Lavertue, Incorporated. Don Lamontangue, who has gone into business with his father, arrived late. Better late than never, though. Wayne proved to be a most accommodating host, the ball was enjoyed by all, and everyone is looking forward to the year 1984, when we will hold our 25th class reunion. Walter Dwyer, who has become a prominent electrical engineer, is escorting Linda Morin, his secretary. We have in our midst nine teachers who, as in high school, are carrying on an intelligent discus- sion concerning our economic problems. They are Priscilla Renaud, Janice Hawkins, Shirley Memolo, Pat Gillingham, Sunny Gagne, Nancy Goddard, Kenneth Judson, Edgar Melanson, and Arthur Fennessey. Our inseparable Waugh twins still remain together. They are both serving the U. S. government in foreign service. S AGHSC3, Q x New HW CLASS HISTORY Freshmen In September, 1955, 103 enthusiastic Freshmen entered Berlin Junior High School. We soon at- tended to the business of electing our oflicers: James Eadie, president, Gary Boire, vice-president, Beverly Halvorson, secretary-treasurer, Beverly Bisson and Richard Tondreau, student council representatives. When winter carnival time arrived, we elected Mary Tondreau as our candidate. The class and she worked very hard and, as a result, we became the first freshmen class in the history of Berlin High to win the Carnival queen contest. Beverly Bisson did an excellent job of captain- ing the junior varsity cheering squad our fresh- man year. The other two freshmen members of the squad were Priscilla Renaud and Susan Car- bonneau. Twenty members of our class were in the chorus and fifteen members were in the band. Five students from our class represented us at All - State. We also had representatives on various sport teams, and the Reporter, Meteor, and Tatler staffs. Robert Hamlin, James Eadie, Richard Gilbert, Don- ald Miner, and Gary Boire were initiated into the Key Club. At the end of the year it was announced that Jan- ice Hawkins and David Goland were the recipients of the American Legion Citizenship Awards. We were certainly proud of them. Sophomores September, 1956, found us as students in senior high at last. We began the year by electing our class officers: James Eadie, president, David Goland, vice president, Mary Tondreau, secretary- treasurerg and Beverly Bisson, student council representative. We had representatives in every sports team, the cheering squad, the Reporter, the Meteor, and the Tatler staffs, the Dramatic Club, the Audio-Visual Club, the National Athletic Scholarship Society, and the band and chorus. Our candidate as Carnival queen this year was Ann Carter We were very proud of Carol Lee Woodward and Lillian Waugh when they both won prizes in the Brown Company Essay Contest. As our sophomore year ended, we looked forward to our last two years at Berlin High. Juniors After an enjoyable summer, we returned to begin a busy, and eventful junior year. For our class officers we elected James Eadie as president, Robert Hamlin Secretary, Janice Hawk- ins as treasurer, and Priscilla Renaud as student council representative. When Winter Carnival time rolled around, We selected Beverly Halvorson to represent our class, but as luck would have it, we were defeated by the freshmen. During the last of January we held tryouts for our Junior Play, Highly Seasoned, which was ably directed by Mr. Herbert Redfern. The parts were given to Beverly Bisson, Louise Berthiaume, Ella Mullins, Carol Lee Woodward, Lorraine Arsenault, Lucille Waugh, Gary Boire, David Goland, Gerard Belliveau, Arthur Toll, Donald Miner, and Richard Gilbert. After the play we all enjoyed a party held at Knotty Pine Steak House. Four members of our class were on the varsity cheerleading squad: Priscilla Renaud, Ann Carter, Louise Berthiaume, and Beverly Bisson, who was chosen to represent our school in the Miss Cheer- leader contest. Gary Boire was a member of the first string of our basketball team, which went to the tournament and came in second place in New Hampshire. Our representatives to Boys' State were Gary Boire and Gerard Belliveau. President James Eadie went to the Model United Nations. Louise Berthiaume, and Priscilla Renaud represented us at Girls' State. At Girls' State Priscilla was chosen as one of the two Miss New Hampshire del- egates to attend Girls' Nation in Washington D. C. Kenneth Judson, one of our industrious students, helped Miss Powers in the school bank. In April Janice Hawkins, Lillian and Lucille Waugh, Beverly Bisson, and Priscilla Renaud attended the All-State Music Festival. As May drew nearer, we began to think about a Junior Prom. The gym took on a very different and lovely air under our theme, The Birds and the Bees. Beverly Bisson was crowned Junior Prom Queen, and we all agreed that she deserved it. Our junior year came to an end, as we put on the Senior Assembly under the direction of Miss Ann Moffett. Janice Hawkins completed the Year- book and we all realized that we were to be on the top now. Seniors Finally we were seniors, the busy, important, dignified members of the student body! Robert Hamlin and James Holroyd were co-cap tains of the football team, while Donald Miner was our hockey team captain. We had five members on the basketball team: Gary Boire - captain, Fred Murphy, George Williams, Wayne Ledger, and Arthur Toll. In November we presented our Senior Play, The Man Who Came to Dinner. Priscilla Renaud and Robert Hamlin headed our fine cast, which was un- der the excellent direction of Mrs. Finnegan. In girls' sports, the Waugh twins, Lillian and Lucille, were co-captains of the field hockey team. Phyllis Gagne and Patricia Gillingham were co-captains of the very successful basketball team. Patricia was also our candidate for the Win- ter Carnival Queen. Priscilla Renaud was the captain of a very active squad of cheerleaders. They attended all the basket- ball, football, and hockey games- adding much to the enthusiasm of the crowds. In the Brown Company Essay contest, three mem- bers of our class appeared on television to receive awards. Carol Lee Woodward received third prize, Lucille Waugh received the sixth prize, and Lillian Waugh the eighth. Gary Boire was chosen to represent our class in the Abraham Lincoln contest which was sponsored by radio station W K C B. Attending the All State Music Festival this year were Lillian and Lucille Waugh and Janice Hawkins in the orchestra, Priscilla Renaud, James Eadie, Donald Miner, and Robert Hamlin in the chorus. Ella Mullins won the Betty Crocker Homema- king Award, and was judged one of the top win- ners in the state. Our valedictorian was Robert Gallant. The Waugh Twins took top honors in the College Preparatory course, Ann Carter in the Commercial cource, Shirley Memolo in the General course, and Ronald Grover in the mechanic arts course.
