We hope it will long serve as a pleasantreminder of the happy hours and never-to-be-for- gotten adventures of our high school days. As we pass through the portals of Berlin High School into a world torn by war, the future looms before us, dark, foreboding, and intangible, but the light of our education shows a path through the gloom, and with hearts full of hope, we set out for that great day, Tomorrow. llllllllllillIlllllllIlllllllllllllllllllllllIlllllllIlllllllllllllIll!IlllllllIllllllllllllllllllllllIllIllIIllllllllllIIIIIIIIIIIlIIIIllIIIIIIIIIIIlllllllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIllllllIIIIIIIIIlIllllllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIlIllIlllIIllIllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll 5 IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIK F xiii! sv 4 4 A-2 10 us: U. Branches of the society have since sprung up throughout the entire country. Miss Emma jane Vklillianis established the Berlin High School Chapter during the school year 19-40- 194l. and she has been twice appointed the State Sponsor for New Hampshire. The society has as its main objectives the following: 1. To recognize and promote outstanding student achievement in any phase of speech. 2. To promote a better relationship between the high school and the community through a co- operative program with national service organizations, churches, and other recognized conn- munity groups. ln order to successfully carry out this second objective. the Masque and Gavel has as one of its activities a Speakers' Bureau through which entertainment committees of any local or- ganization inay obtain entertainers on only a few hours' notice. This service is being widely used by many of the various community groups. Last year Eleanor Theberge served as secretary in the state organization, and Ida Paquette was honored by being elected treasurer for the coming year. The Berlin High School has long been indebted to the Home Economics Girls for their line and commendable work in costuniing, stage decoration and other deeds too numerous to mention, but their outstanding workin making band uniforms cannot be surpassed. The Berlin lsligh Mountaineers had an excellent season this year, ending up with three victor- ies, two ties and one loss out of six games. Excellent coaching by Herbert Gumpright, Norman llaweeli. and Ralph Fellows made it possible for the team to show up like a college group. Our eo-captains, Dick Gagliuso and Hammer Henderson, acted mightily, both on ottensive and defensive. These boys were ably supported hy Cyn Yien, Sharky Lavernoich, Bob Gaynor, Pendulum Pelletier, and a host of others making a team that will live in the memories of Berlin High. The hlayyee squad shaped up nice enough to crush the Gorham varsity to a twenty to zero count. After dropping the first game to Gorham, they bounced back to a tie. Led by .'Xndy Monahan, Dick l'arent, Gordon Moreau, and many others of equal ability. they bounced back harder to heat Gorham the third in a three-game series. YVith many old timers coming' back and the jayvees filling in, Berlin High may look for- ward to a very eventful season. llllllIIIlllllillllllllI'llllllIIllIIIlllllllIllllIllllllllllllllllllllIIIIIIIIIllllllllIIIIIlllllllllllllllllllllIIIIlllllllllllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII lllllllllllllllllllIllllllllllllIIIlllllllllllllIlllllllllllllllIllllllllllllllIlllllllllllllllllllllllIIIllllllllllllllllllllllllll 75 IIIIIIIIIIIIIIFCIIHIIIlllllllllllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIllllllllllllllllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIllllllllIlllllllIIKIIIIIIlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllIIIIlllllllIIIIIIIIIIIIlllllllllillIIIIIIIlIIIIIIIIllllllllllllllllllllIllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllIlIllilllllllIlllllllllllllllll Boys? lllimaisllseilsballll Coarlz--RANSOMIE GARRETT Cn-flzj-fnifzx---IfRlilJIQRICK I-XOCKMAN, .IOHN SAZONTCK Cafvfailz-Elect-H URLIEY BAYLOR lWa11ag01'V-Cl,YUlf JOHNSON .Manager Elwt-Al.I'HE SAUCIICR Games Played-175 VVon, ll g Lost. 6. Basketballers of Berlin High School had a very successful season this last winter, comming eleven out of seventeen contests. Led by co-captains Freddy Bockman of the point-making de- partment, and Johnny Sazonick of the defense, the Garrettmen rolled over many old rivals such as Rochester, Bangor School of Commerce, Hebron Reserves, and Rumford. Lanky Bob Stewart clinched both Conway games by sinking decisive last-minute baskets. John Keougli, George VVhite, and co-captain Freddy Bockman vied with each other for pointage, successfully boosting our point average to forty-one per game to the opponents' thirty.
