Roxanne Krause is employed at Hardee's. Tim Wallaca and Randy Mulder are both Main Street workers. What are you doing tonight' Working. This is a common response heard here at Berlin High School. Many students have after school and weekend jobs. The most common reason to work is that students have to get money from somewhere and most parents won t just give it. The money students earn from these jobs is used in many different ways. Some students just use their money to go out and have a good time. Other students stash every dime and penny away for their future education, or that car that they want so bad. Then they won't have to share with mom and dad anymore. Most underclassmen have a harder time getting jobs than upperclassmen because of lack of transportation, and in most cases not being old enough. But some of these underclassmen babysit for neighbors and friends, or do yard work and other small jobs. Some students are fortunate enough to have their job right at their own home as in farming. Seniors Andy Sobieski and Paul Brueggan work on the family farm with their parents. Other students even start their own business. An example of this is the many students at our school who have become interest- ed in the DJ business. They have started their own or bought someone elses. Besides working at home and self-started businesses, there are many different kinds of jobs held by other students at BUS. In the Berlin area some of the largest employers are the Green Tree

Mall, Hardee's and the Main Street Restaurant. We talked to some of the students who work at the Main Street Restaurant and they for the most part seem to enjoy their jobs. Some of the positions held are short order cook, dishwash- er, bus person and waitress. The employees say that their boss considers them just one big family and this helps them to work better. A common job for a male in this area is to be a carryout boy or shelf Stocker at one of the local grocery stores such as Sentry, Greening or Super Valu. When speaking with some of the boys they seem to enjoy their jobs but say when working long hours, they really get tired from all the running around. They have to be polite and smile at the customers even if they don't have the energy anymore. Berlin students even travel outside the area to find jobs. For example, senior Michelle McGrath works at the A W restaurant in Wautoma, and junior Kerri Jones is employed by McDonald's of Ripon. When talking with students we found some of the most uncommon jobs. Some of them were cleaning WISS station by Kari Branske. furniture delivery by Jim Kasuboski. and office work and straightening at Nigbor Furs done by I.ana Pomplun. Most students seem to feel that having a job during high school has been an advantage for them. They feel they will be better prepared for what is ahead when they start career hunting after school. Shane Luethe and Peter Kasuboski are employed at Greenings. Shelly Bartol and Jenny LaBuda are employed at Greenings. Julie W'ucherer works at Ben Franklin. Troy Hitchcock and Lisa Leppin work at Jeff s Pizza. Working Studenti II
