In conference, Berlin ran away with the points con- stantly and finished, taking the East Central Champion- ship. After winning the regionals and continuing to Sectionals, the Indians Dave Rew (100 and 200 meters), Jeff Klick (100 meters), Dave Soper (Int. Hurdles), and the 400 meter relay team qualified for state competition. It was a windy day but that didn't affect the anxiety of actually being part of the state meet in Madison. The crowd of thousands raised the spirit and excitement as the races finished. Jeff Klick took a 4th in the 100 meter It was really neat Sen. Craig Verheyen dash and the 400 meter relay team consisting of Jeff Klick, Brian Johnson, Craig Ver- heyen, and Dave Rew, took a 1st Upon finishing the team knew they had done their best and in fact the time of 43.26 set a new state record! When asked what this day was really like for them, Jeff Klick recalled not concen- trating on the crowd during his race but close to the finish line I heard the crowd cheer- ing and someone calling my name . Other than that the guys couldn't really say what they felt except that it was really neat .
