During the week the class battled for the covetted School Spirit Award. The week started off with Movie Star and Cartoon Day. Many celeb- rities were on the scene, including Dolly Parton and Mr. T. Tuesday was Punk and Country Day which was followed by Nerd Day on Wednesday. On Thursday the tra- ditional Dress Up Day was held and the school colors prevailed on Friday. The students and their teachers participated in several contests throughout the week, during the noon hour. These events included Simon Says, Musical Chairs, Bal- loon Tossing, Tug-of-War and many other challenging activities. The weather did not always co- operate with events. Much to the dismay of the lads and lasses, the Powder Puff Game, the snakedance and the bonfire, on Thursday night, were all canceled due to rain. However, on Friday the rain stopped. Spirit was high on Friday and the teachers had a hard time keeping the students' mind on their studies. At 1:00 p.m. the Homecoming pep assembly began. Each class and the faculty pre- sented skits, and the cheerleaders led the students in several cheers. The Seniors took first place in the skit competition, with their version of the Price Is Right. The Home- coming Court was presented and Kevin Jorgensen and Kelly Brooks were chosen as Mr. and Miss Ber- lin. The students were then dis- missed to go to the parade. The students paraded through the city streets displaying their crafts — the juniors took first place in the float competition with the theme We're Aiming For a Victory. After the festivities, the pupils pre- pared for the big night. The night was cold and windy, but many spectators turned out to watch the Indians battle the Omro Foxes. After a tough fight, the final score was Omro 15, Berlin 6. Following the football game the J. Harrison B. Band provided music for the 1984 Homecoming Dance. They survived many trials during their stay. Among them were the green eggs served with Mrs. Kramer's favorite little weinies, the suspi- cions of a Neenah detective trying to solve a supposedly steamy romance, a mysterious knocker four floors above the ground, walking up sixteen floors of stairs due to broken eleva- tors, and of course the strangest adventure in- cluded the proposed marriage of two very unusu- al people. The adventurers managed to survive these and many other trials and returned home to a happy ending. They could finally drink the water. 44 Once upon a time in the wee hours of the morning, on June 13, thirteen unsuspecting trav- elers left for a far away land called Deutschland. Little did these poor souls know of the adven- tures that awaited them. Gourmet airplane meals, first class accommo- dations in Frankfurt, interesting weather pat- terns, the memorable Hofbrau Haus, safety con- scious taxi drivers, flying champagne corks and power outages were only some of the highlights of the WONDERFUL trip. SO!, all in all the travelers enjoyed their stay and brought many happy memories home with them. Once again another WONDERFUL end- ing is achieved. 45 B-Club Row 1: K Brooks. C. (jknt + (fybbu 113 A Friend From Afar This year's AFS student, Jose Moran, is staying with the Calvin Edward family. He is from Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. According to Jose, Tegucigalpa has a population of 750,000 and is very different from Berlin. One difference between life in Berlin and life in Tegucigalpa is the school system. In Tegucigalpa, the students can not choose their own schedules, and they must also wear uniforms. They remain in the same room all day, and the teachers are the ones who change classes. Jose says he enjoys Berlin's more lenient school system. Jose enjoys playing basketball and soccer. He also likes to listen to music and enjoys dancing. Although the dancing is quite different from what Jose is accustomed to, he has fun trying. I was surprised when I asked ONE girl to dance, and a whole GROUP of them came along! he laughed. Something else totally new to Jose was snow. In Honduras, the climate is much warmer than it is in Berlin, so the snow was unique. Jose said he liked the snow. He also commented on how pretty the trees looked with snow clinging to the branches. Although Jose is a senior at BHS, he has already completed a semester of college at Tegucigalpa. Upon returning to Honduras he plans to contin- ue his studies in electrical engineering. We wish Jose GOOD LUCK in the future, and we ll miss him! 114  • Tfvar RJoit.
