FUN1II 3 STUDENT LIFE . . . 4 6 PART OF STUDENT LIFE FOREIGN STUDENTS I wanted to come to United States and see what it is like. The country, the peo- ple and the culture. I have now found ev- erything just beautiful and I love to be here. It is a lot different from home and it is a really good experience to come and see how other countries are. The Ameri- can people are just wonderful and so is also your state, Wisconsin. I'm so happy to be here and I'm sure that I will come back after this year. Having been here once you have to return. Christina Liedgren Coming from South Africa, where the schooling and environment is very differ- ent, I have found AFS a fantastic exper- ience and a wonderful opportunity to grow as a person. I have managed to see quite a bit of Wisconsin and can't get over what a beautiful state it is. I've never seen so many colors during an autumn, and winter is a totally new and exciting time for me. Thank you everyone for being so friendly and hospitable. It's really added to my high impression of America. Linda Miller 8 MR. AND MISS BERLIN Greg Doro and Jody Zamott HOMECOMING COURT Bob Brooks Debbie Tessaro Rick Hollmair Lisa Wiecki Nancy Keller Stan Hallman Lisa VanOmum Gary Chikowski HOMECOMING MEMORIES Homecoming Week began, Monday, with Crazy Clothes Day, followed by Grandpa and Grandma Day, Little Kids Day, and Hippie Day. It ended Friday with people dressing like their floats or in school col- ors. Friday, starting with the traditional pep assembly and parade, was the climax of the week. Unveiled results showed that everyone's hardwork paid off. Class com- petition cheers and the skits were pre- sented at the pep assembly. Mr. and Miss Berlin were named-Greg Doro and Jody Zarnott. Then it was off to the parade. Each class proudly yelled behind their floats. To everyone's dismay, bad weather set in after the parade and lasted throughout the game. Still the cheerleaders and a few loyal fans watched an excellent game. The Indians shut out the Winneconne Wolves- 12 to 0. The dance, featuring Belixis, followed the game from 10:00 until 12:00. The results of class competition were announced. The Seniors and Juniors did equally well in the contests, each receiving two firsts, a second and a third. The Seniors won with their skit based on the movie Rocky and their window which featured Elvis saying, We'll stomp 'em with our green suede shoes. The Juniors received a first on their float, which pictured a Rice Kri- spies box. The slogan read, We'll snap, crackle, pop 'em. Their first place bul- letin board read, It's a Good Year for an Indian Victory I Homecoming Week is a special time for everyone, and this year proved to be a memorable success. UOUd PUTTING IT TOGETHER _ ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL ONE ACT PLAY! The Jewish Wife written by Bertolt Brecht was the one act play chosen by director James Rericha for this years competition. The play depicts the treatment of Jews in pre-World War I, Germany. Paula Kramer did an outstanding job of portray- ing Judith Keith, a woman torn by the ne- cessity of leaving her husband and home. John Goodrich played Fritz Keith, the shallow hearted husband. Directors Rericha and Scheil incorporated several unique effects into the play. Slides were projected onto a screen de- picting pre and post war Germany. Music featuring a bog choir and Vaughners Fu- neral March accompanied the slide. All actions were pantomimed. Paula's hair was dyed black, while John's was tinted gold. The play received A ratings at conference competition capturing the traveling trophy for the 2nd year in a row. The play ad- vanced thru sectionals. John performed with a broken leg. Here, the play re- ceived a BBA rating, one A short of state competition. ALICE WONDERLAND OVERTURE The Boat Song A boat, beneath a sunny sky. Lingering onward dreamily In an evening of July ... Long has paled that sunny sky; Echoes fade and memories die; Autumn frosts have slain July. Still she haunts me, phantomwise, Alice moving under skies Never seen by waking eyes. In a Wonderland she lies, Dreaming as the summer dies, Drifting down the stream ... Lingering the golden gleam ... Life, what is it but a dream? 18 SENIOR CLASS PLAY ALICE IN WONDERLAND Lisa Van Omum Janice Dye Jodi White Connie Page Beth Thompson Holly Werch Mark Schinke Randy Nicolaison Anita Zakowski Sue Fordham Paula Kramer Sharon Grahn Lisa Wiecki Therese Doro Darryl Doan Liz Page Teri Verheyen Jody Zamott John Goodrich Paul Reed Cathy Meyer Linda Miller Rhonda Guldan Joan Schenk Lisa Wucherer Greg Doro Diana Baniels Jane LaBuda Julie Frank Sue Myer Marie Schuster Kim Barnard Wendy Resop Deb Tessaro Bonnie Patchet Connie Johannes Erin Gilliland Cheryl Boelke Kathy Michels Jenny Sattler Sue Kuble 19 CHORUS: Row One: J. Besides being involved with solo ensemble competition this year, it has had several other rewarding experiences. The ensembe gave a jazz concert featuring guest artist Dominic Serpico. The highlight for the 26 member group was a trip to the Eau Claire jazz festival. 26 THE “SNOW” MUST GO ON The BHS Marching Chiefs practiced three long months to prepare for a November 27 Packer show. Unfor- tunately, it was snowing the day of the game. Inspite of hazardous road conditions, the band made the trip to Green Bay, determined to perform. The Marching Chiefs performed their pre-game show, but because of poor field conditions could not perform their half-time show. The band would like to take this op- portunity to thank Mr. Kramer for his efforts. We really appreciate the time and pereistance he gave to make this a rewarding experience for all of us. Thanks for a job well done. 27 School Leaders: Student Government Lisa Wiecki- Secretary Therese Doro-President Cathy Meyer-Treasurer Bill Sobralski-Vice Pres.- (missing) STUDENT COUNCIL: Row One: B. Led by first-year coach Steve Stellmacker, the team improved from last years 1-7 re- cord to six wins and two losses this sea- son. The Indians lost to their long-time rivals, the Ripon Tigers and a team once rated first in the state-the Little Chute Mustangs. Berlin finished third in the Conference, just behind Little Chute and Ripon who were first and second respec- tively . The Indians successful season team effort was highlighted when five all-conference awards were given to Berlin players.
