dedication The Mascoutin Staff of Berlin High School wish to show their appreciation to Mr. Clyde Shaw for his many years of service in the Berlin School System by respectfully dedicating this 1968 Mascoutin to him. Mr. Shaw, who retired this year, has spent 38 years working for the Berlin School System and community. For this fine service we sincerely thank Mr. Shaw. Mr. Shaw was born in Kingston, Wisconsin in 1902 and received his elementary and high school education in that village. He attended the now non-existent Busheys Business College in Appleton. Upon graduation from Ripon College in 1926, Mr. Shaw began his career by teaching at Markesan High School. Four years later he came to Berlin High School and taught various sub- jects including history, algebra, English and Latin. He received his Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1948. In 1950 Mr. Shaw became Berlin High School principal and has held that position until the present time. Mr. Shaw's commendable record in educational service speaks for itself. He has been a mem- ber of the National Association of Secondary School Principals since 1950 and also of the Wiscon- sin Education Association and the National Education Association. He has served as either member or chairman of many North Central evaluating committees and several state committees concerning curriculum improvement. Mr. Shaw was also given the distinction of being elected to serve two three-year terms on the WIAA advisory board. During this last year he has acted as President of the Little Ten Conference. In the area of community service, Mr. Shaw's impressive record also deserves well earned praise. He has served on the public library board for 15 years, on the Community Chest Board of Directors for 17 years and as secretary-treasurer of the Mascoutin Club 12 years. Mr. Shaw has also acted as President of the Union Congregational Board of Trustees and been a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1926. Mr. Shaw has said that he greatly enjoys serving and helping the community in any way he can. Mr. Shaw's various interests include golfing, reading, playing bridge and following almost every sport. In the future he hopes to find time to fish and plans to take up the hobby of sketch- ing. Mr. Shaw does not want to take credit for any one achievement because he feels that in to- day's world, nothing can be accomplished except through the cooperation of many people.

Editors At the end of every year we all look back and review all the fun along with the new and in- teresting events of the school year. The year started off with the Band's Packer Football Game performance in Milwaukee. Also, the band has set a new record on first place ratings at the solo ensemble contest at both district and state competitions. Winning the Little Ten Conference football championship this year was a great feat and we would like to thank all athletes for their great performance and keep it up . Retiring this year are Mrs. Leone Flanigan, Mrs. Dorothy Lalley; Clay Lamberton and Mrs. Lauretta Nelson, Poy Sippi. We would like to express our appreciation for their fine work in ele- mentary education and we wish them well in the future. Next year the seniors will have their choice of the type of American Problems class they wish to take. Political Science, Sociology and Economics are the new courses. This year's school trip is heading out west. They will start out toward Iowa into the Black Hills and tour on to Colorado. As Co-editors we would especially like to thank Mr. Wahlers for all the time and help he has given us. As another year passes on we hope we have captured a few rewarding events in your life and we wish you all the luck in the future. Lynn Doll and Marilyn Wallace Co - Editors
