Erwin Ehrlich, Director Harold Spangler, Clerk Charles Miller, Treasurer Richard Barry Harold Gatzke Wilfred Handrich Gordon Janies Glenn Michaels Howard Barnes BERLIN BOARD OF EDUCATION The Board of Education has been working on gigantic projects in the past year. They have supervised the construction of two elementary schools in the district. They are the new junior high school in the city of Berlin and the Poy Sippi elementary school in Poy Sippi. The Poy Sippi school is already open and the Clay Lamberton school will open for the first time in the Fall of 1963. The junior high has been named for Mr. Clay Lamberton, a former superintendent of Berlin High School and well known state educator. Berlin also has taken in many new districts this year. Several “country schools” have been closed and the children attending these schools have been sent to the city schools. Special recognition for 20 years of service is given to Gordon James, who has served the Berlin school system from 1942 to the present time. He served as president of the board from 1952 through 1958, and since that time has devoted most of his efforts as chairman of the personnel committee.

CLAY LAMBERTON DEDICATION MR. MRS. CLAY LAMBERTON Because of the assassination of President Kennedy, visitors arriving at the new Clay Lamberton School Sunday, November 24, were greeted by a flag which was flown at half staff. When everyone had assembled in the gymnasium, Mr. Erwin Ehrlich, director of the school board, took the floor as master of ceremonies. The main speaker was William C. Kahl, first assistant state superintendent, who spoke on “Educational Progress Demands Change”. Mr. Clay Lamberton, for whom the school was named, also addressed the group. Mr. Lamberton was formerly a principal and su- perintendent in the Berlin area for over thirty years. The Berlin High School chorus provided musical entertainment for the program with a choral dedication. Miss Donna Decker, vocal director in the Berlin system, presented the solo, Mozart’s “Alleluia”. Reverend Nehrbass delivered the benediction. Then the guests were dismissed to tour the school and were served refreshments in the cafeteria.
