SUPERINTENDENT For the past decade our state experienced a great forward movement in its schools. The emphasis was on school reorganization, building and transportation. Our district has consolidated an area of about two hundred square miles into a district where all the children now have equal educational opportunities. As we look at the years ahead it is quite evident that emphasis on education will con- tinue. The principle of extensive and universal education is firmly established in our society. It is quite obvious that the years ahead will require a different kind of training for our young people. The educational requirements in this age of automation involves more precise basic training in mathematics, science and ability to use the written and spoken language. But of even greater importance is the development of good healthy personalities and behavior patterns in such areas as citizenship, character, and respect for learning. Perhaps the greatest need of the future is more adult education. No one can afford to stop learning upon the completion of high school. Continued education helps mature men and women to improve themselves as producers, and to participate in our society as effective citizens and as persons. What our community needs is a number of people who will act as stimulators in a variety of learning areas. We need people to demonstrate that our everyday life can be filled with challenging and worthwhile learning experiences. We need leaders who will promote the fine arts, constructive recreational activities and learning experiences at all age levels. In all these activities the high school should be in a position to be helpful to individ- uals and groups. Our emphasis for the next decade should be quality, and not materialistic quantity. The program should be designed for adults as well as children. — C. R. Wolf
