IN MEMORIAM Ruth Brewer When a person is young, death seems to be the farthest thing away. Children play together and plan for the future years. When they reach high school, there are many changes — of the personality, and of future plans. Outlooks on life are broadened and the world’s problems become more intense. Still, the idea of death of a classmate is never thought of. If it should happen, as it has, the reactions are varied. Everyone realizes the great loss, and realizes better the complicated ways of God. Although Ruth Amy Brewer has left us, we know that she will be with us in spirit as we don our caps and gowns at graduation. We will always remember Ruth for her love of nature and her unfailing courage. — The Class of 1963

EDITORS Mary McAvoy — Cathie Spangler We, the editors of the 1963 Mascoutin, in order to form a more enjoyable yearbook, estab- lish staff teamwork, insure errorless statistics, provide for better unity among students, promote the complete circulation of the yearbook, and secure a clear reference for the students and the community, do insure the accuracy of the yearbook and hope you find it a well-molded source of the many events of the past year. This year has been the busiest thus far in the history of Berlin’s school system. Great changes have taken place. A new junior high school is under construction. It is to be named for a former Superin- tendent of Berlin High School, Mr. Clay Lamberton. A new grade school in Poy Sippi has also been constructed, and a foreign language laboratory was added in the high school. Having a foreign exchange student has been a pleasant addition to the entire community. Clemente Morales has been sponsored by the American Field Service and local civic organiza- tions, the Berlin High Student Council played a very important part in the success of the ex- change student. The hope to continue this practice in future years with the same amount of success is very high. The yearbook has also undergone a major change. The Senior Activities can be found in the back of the book in order to provide for more continuity in specific areas of information. The book is a true expression of the students interests in activities. It is an accumulation of facts accompanied by photos, to help tell the story of the working bodies within the high school. — Cathie Spangler — Mary McAvoy
