PRINCIPAL Every modern high school has to continually ask itself if its curric- ulum is keeping abreast of modern times. Up to World War II or the early 1940’s there were but few changes made in curriculum offerings during the last 100 years. During the 1940’s and 1950’s science and mathe- matics made a tremendous break- through in understanding man’s po- tentials. As a result, it is estimated that man’s source of knowledge has doubled during the last 20 years and will again double during the next 10 years. This means that Berlin High School will need to evaluate its cur- riculum yearly to keep abreast of the time. Course content must be studied, discarding that not applicable, and introducing that which is meaningful to our hopes and ambitions. C. F. Shaw, Principal Mr. Shaw Mr. Lenz By what yardstick do you measure the cost of education? Statistics have shown that the more education a student completes, the more he or she can expect in a monetary way during their lifetime. Yet, the costs for this education have gone up over the years while the value of the dollar has decreased. There- fore, it takes more of these dollars to meet these costs. Each community has to answer in its own terms just what number of these dollars they wish to pay for education. Berlin has always tried to keep these values in a reasonable relationship, while still providing for the best educational program possible. A long time ago Aristotle stated it this way: “All who have meditated on the art of govern- ing mankind have been convinced that the fate of empires depends on the education of youth.” — Ralph Lenz, Administrative Assistant
