SUPERINTENDENT With a look toward the future, the school buildings and equipment in a community reflect the ambitions, the hopes and the dreams of its people. When school facilities are inadequate, overcrowded and poorly equipped, then the future welfare of the future citizens of the com- munity is in jeopardy. The consolidation of small one-room schools in our district in the past ten years has placed a strain on our remaining schools. This has made it necessary to provide additional classrooms for present and future needs. In addition, shops, science and language laboratories, libraries, a counselling department, gymnasiums, cafeterias and facilities for fine arts have been provided. We are all concerned with raising the standards of living, elevating the culture of our people, providing more job opportunities. Our schools can play an important part in the achievement of these objectives. Whenever school buildings are built, every effort should be made to design them to fit the type of educational program that will be conducted. School administrators and staff members are constantly evaluating the changing educational needs and school services. The past ten years have been marked by great changes in our country. The full power of the atom is being real- ized, jet travel is becoming common place, satellites are orbiting the earth and going to distant planets. The earth’s people are living in closer proximity to each other. The wave of scientific discovery and the upward surge of the people of the earth will pro- duce even greater changes in the years ahead. All of these developments have had a great impact on the educational program of the schools. Somehow, classrooms and up to date teach- ing equipment must be provided, so that our children can find their place in this new era. — C. R. Wolf
