Our national security seems daily to hang in the balance, population shifting and unrest is very evidentg automation and a constantly changing pattern of living is destroying jobs and creating others. Never has it been so apparent that our future progress and security. as individuals and as a nation. is greatly dependent on the quantity and quality of the educational opportunities that we provide for our young people. The present role of the school is almost awesome when we consider the urgency of our educational needs. Coupled with increased needs are the sharply rising costs of operating schools. lf we. in our community, want to provide good educational opportunities for our young people it will be :necessary to make intelligent decisions based on facts and not on emotions. The trend toward school consolidation is nation-wide. The Conant Study clearly shows that small educational units cannot provide the quality of training needed by our young people. A truly comprehensive program is only possible if the high school has a graduating class of at least one hundred. Classes in advanced subjects or separate sections based on ability are impossible in a smaller high school. lt is our sincere hope that our integration program will soon be completed. We will then be in a position to improve the educational program of all the children in our district. The high school of the future will be judged by the service it will render to all the people. These limitations for service will be determined by the understanding and desires of the people of our community. We hope to give every student an equal opportunity. This can only be done by ssholehearted cooperation on this urgent problem of educating all our Children' C. R. Wcilf, Superintendent
