Umpire As we enter an era where leisure time is becoming a major concern to each one of us, the co-curricular program in our schools becomes more important. Our physical education program takes on a new light with the accessability of modern gadgets and transportation facilities. If America is to remain strong physic- ally, then we need to develop a sound life-long program for our graduates. Besides keeping physically fit, we need to be concerned with preparing our minds for leisure time. Such activities as speech, dramatics, and music serve this purpose. I hope our teachers are doing their part in preparing our students for their leisure time. C. F. Shaw, Principal

u M anager n In this age of missiles and satellites the emphasis within the school is shifting from “wheel” to brains. The high schools will not, however, follow the Russian pattern and concentrate wholly on book learning. The importance of a co-curricular program is well established in the develop- ment of people of high school age. The informal contact of teacher and pupil in the activities provides an atmosphere for types of learning that cannot be easily duplicated in the classroom. Participation in sports, dramatics, forensics, music and the publications provide the spark for clean and zestful living. Evaluation of others can more easily be made, resulting in lasting friendships. The student who thoughtfully supplements class work with a balanced activity program will not only be happier during his years in high school but will benefit immeasurably when he presents his credentials for admission to college or in his application for his first job after graduation. C. R. Wolf, Superintendent
