Editorial DEDICATION In order to give credit to the people who are furthering freedom of the press, we the students of Berlin High, dedicate our annual, the Mascoutin, to them. Without these citizens our education would be limited. With freedom of the press, — local, state, national, and inter- national, — news has been available to all people. The newspaper contains news, advertisements, editorials, and other matters of public interest. It is is a publication issued daily or at less frequent intervals for public circulation. The newspaper has spread to all the corners of the earth, within the grasp of all, through the invention of telephone, telegraph, and wireless. Freedom of the press which involves the right of every citizen to print what he chooses is a comparatively recent phenomenom in most countries. In America, ever since the Zenger trail in colonial times, freedom of the press has been constant except in time of war and emergency. In most European countries, especially those under dic- tatorship, the freedom of the press is admittedly void. It is our duty as future citizens of the United States to preserve this hard-won free- dom.

Managing Editor It is the purpose of our annual to retain for us in the years to come some of the events of our high school days. This past school year has been very eventful. Our football team became Little Ten undefeated champions and this made our Homecoming very exciting. The Band and Choral groups came back from the tournament with all first awards breaking previous records. And to add to this our South Pacific” Prom was one of the prettiest in years. Although all the happenings can’t be written and pic- tured in the Mascoutin we shall still remember them. One such event is the realization that Berlin High will very soon have a beautiful new building to accommodate its growing needs. The City Council voted and approved the new addition and construction will begin in the very near future. This addition will provide seven new classrooms, offices and a large new gymnasium for our student body. Our school is progressing and growing to adjust to its needs. I hope the Mascoutin will advance and fluctu- ate to supply its needs in the future. Virginia McMonigal, Editor
