The school spirit so evident at our athletic and musical contests also permeates the work in the classroom. This spirit reflects the relationship that exists between faculty and students in performing their every day tasks. This friendly relation- ship has resulted in many privileges for the student body. Freedom of speech assumes that we have learned the basic fundamentals of language. We all recognize, however, the we must learn much more to deserve our freedoms. We must learn that where privileges are granted we must be will- ing to assume responsibilities and duties. The development of our ability to give and take is one of the greatest assets in a free society. As in good news reporting we must develop a reputation for fairness. We cannot have personal freedom if we deny fair treatment to others. It is our hope that the members of the class of 1954—the largest ever to grad- uate-will take their place as responsible citizens. The real test of what they have learned will be in the manner in which they use their education. Let them always cherish their American heritage with the knowledge that freedom can easily be lost—in part or in full. C. R. Wolp

Contrary to statements that sometimes one hears, I find that the majority of our students are thinking and planning for their luture security. The best way to obtain this security is to develop a good mind. Along with a good mind goes social adjustment, or the ability to get along with other people. The philosophy back of our high school program is to graduate students that are both mentally alert and socially adjusted. I am sure that our faculty has been aware of this need and have worked hard to accomplish this end. Our students are competing on even terms with graduates of other schools. They are going into business, into the professions, entering our colleges and Universities for further learning, and are doing a good job. To the Seniors that are graduating may I extend best wishes for a successful life, and to the underclassmen, may your remaining high school years develop the foundation upon which a solid future can be built.
