1953 DEDICATION This year the students of Berlin High School are very proud to dedicate their annual, Mascoutin, to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion and their respective Auxiliaries as a token of their recognition in the most admirable field of public service and community spirit. Both organizations have done much to help, not only the community as a whole, but the school and its students in particular. The Veterans of Foreign Wars has done many and varied services for our students and school, one being the loaning of the Post’s bleachers which were 1 O O used at our athletic contests and were certainly appreciated. Then, the Post offers a Veterans of Foreign Wars award each year to one of the senior class boys. The award is offered on the merits of outstanding athletic achievements. This group also was quite prominent in its efforts during the community- wide sponsorship of the Mascoutin Round-up this fall, and sponsored a boy and girl for King and Queen. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies’ Auxiliary has done much for the school and community, also. Their contributions range from promoting the Parent-Teacher’s Association to the sponsorship of an annual Veterans of For- eign Wars Auxiliary essay contest. The Ladies’ Auxiliary offers an award each year to a senior girl. This is offered on the merits of the student’s academic ability, musical achievements and citizenship. Equal acknowledgment is given to the American Legion and their Auxiliary for their excellent work in promoting better relationships in the community and the school system. Each year the American Legion offers a medal to a senior boy for excep- tional academic standing, fine leadership and outstanding athletic ability. They also promote initiative on the part of the underclassmen by sponsoring a boy to attend Badger Boys’ State, which is certainly a most commendable and beneficial project. They have done much to help make the Mascoutin Round-up successful and worthwhile by participation in the sponsorship of a prospective King and Queen. The Auxiliary of the American Legion has many fine projects. They, too, offer an award each year to a senior girl on her outstanding citizenship and school activity participation merits. The ladies sponsor a girl each year to send to Badger Girls’ State plus many other community projects. Through the efforts of these four fine organizations much has been done for our students and in promoting public spirit and initiative. Once again we would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion and their Auxiliaries for their excellent and successful efforts to promote our community and encourage our students to become better and more progressive citizens by setting an example for all of us.

Master Sergeant We can never hope to express in words or pictures those times of high school life that are so very near and dear to us all. The excitement of the freshmen; the sense of belonging of the sophomore; the antici- pation of graduating of the junior; and finally the sudden realization of leaving good old Berlin High of the senior . . . the school spirit and cooperation; the joys and sorrows can not be put down in black and white but they can be brought back as sweet memories as one glances through the pages of their high school annual. It is my sincere hope that this Mascoutin will serve as that connecting link between you and your school in the years to come, and that it will provide you with many pleasant memories. Karlyn Weiske Editor-in-Chief
