LAMP 1985 Volume L Berlin High School 139 Patterson Way Berlin, CT 06037 i Dedication 1985 Lamp The 1905 yearbook staff is proud to dedicate this year's Golden Anniversary Lamp to Mrs. Christine Coloiocovo. Mrs. C. is a graduate of D.H.S.. where she was an active member of the National Honor Society. If is especially appropriate that. In our anniversary year, the yearbook dedication go to one who has both received from and given to the school. After high school, the then Miss Drummond. attended Central Connecticut State College, where she earned a degree In English and Sociology. She then moved on to Trinity College, which awarded her a Masters Degree In English Literature. Arriving bock at her Alma Mater In 1966. the soon to be Mrs. Coloiocovo plunged right info the life of the school. In addition to being our Class Advisor, she has advised the school newspoper. literary magazine, and variety show. We hod very little discussion to decide upon a teacher whom we felt hod been especially important to us in our four years at Berlin High School - we all thank you. Mrs. Colaiacovol 2 DEDICATION In September of long ogo 1961. our doss lounched Its high school coreer without on odvisor This desperote situotlon wos soon greotly improved when Mrs Coloiocovo generously ogreed to toke us under her wing Since rhot time, she hos expertly and patiently guided us through spirit weeks, donees ond fundroisers too mony to count Without her hard work ond devotion, this year's senior class would hove hod o greotly diminished experience ot Berlin High Mrs C. this busy lody. is not only on English teocher ond Class Advisor She Is also o wife mother, ond our good friend We truly opprelcote the greot amount of time ond effort she hos unselfishly contributed to our doss We wish her the best of luck ond much hoppiness in the future. Rita Feole President. Goss of 1965 DEDICATION 3 Trivial Pursuit Trivial Pursuit is the successful new board game that is sweeping the country. This game, a simple recreational tool, has a special relationship to the class of 1985. When carefully looked at, there ore obvious similarities between the board gome and the apparently trivial lives of the young adults of Berlin High School. In the game, players rake turns using their knowledge to move around the board, accumulate pieces of pie, and win the game. In the some way, students go through everyday life experiencing oil that they can. Nor only is each student taught facts, bur he also gains knowledge on how to live By simply experiencing everyday life, the student grows both individually ond on a social level. In Trivial Pursuit as in any gome, there is competition between the players. The difference here is the shoring of each individual's knowledge with the group. As they answer questions, players apply what they know ond benefit from each others' knowledge. The same is true in school. Students compere with each other in their own environment; this competition is prevalent in many forms, such as sports, grodes, and other elections in school. Through these experiences, students are able to accumulate multitudes of small lessons and apply the knowledge learned to other situations. In Trivial Pursuit, if a player is successful in answering all of the necessory questions and completes a pie, he or she is the winner. Although the individual questions do nor meon much alone, as a unit, or as a pie, they are very important. In the some way, students gain many small achievements in school, which after many years, add up to their completed pie'' and victory — a high school diploma. Once completed, this education is o base upon which a future can be built. It is a symbol of a student s hord work, dedication, and academic success. Throughout this yearbook, the 1985 LAMP, the rheme of Trivial Pursuit will be continued. If is the desire of the graduating Class of 1985 to step forward from their high school memories feeling that they have learned and grown in positive directions. Hopefully, some insight into the relationship between the game Trivial Pursuit and the Class of 1985 has been gained; this class will go beyond high school as individuals in pursuit of happiness, greater knowledge, and on understanding of life. It could cause one to ponder: Is the pursuit that they are on really so trivial? 4 THEME 6 THEME Seniors Dob Lamb and Llso Mayerte show their school spirit.
