Text from Pages 1 - 176 of the 1983 volume:

BERLIN HIGH SCHOOL 1983 Coach P. Thank you for all your time and effort. When things were going badly you stuck by us, encouraging us all the way. You never let us forget how good we were — and your confidence in us paid off. We began to win, and the more we won, the more we realized that, without you, none of this could have happened. You became our coach and our friend — someone we could relate to. How awed we were by you as freshmen, only later to realize that you were a person just like us. So thank you, Coach P., for always being there and for showing more dedication to a cause than anyone else we know. Brian Gombotz Co-Captain, Berlin High School Varsity Football Team The dedication of the 1983 LAMP is offered to a person who has served our school and community in a number of ways. He has befriended many students while teaching his physical education classes, and while coaching both the football and girl's track teams. Now, looking back over the past four years, we begin to realize how much he has done for us, how much he means to us, and how much we will miss him; this man is Al Pelligrinelli, better known as Coach P U.AO J l ■ To Our Coach Dear Coach P., How can we thank you for your total dedication to the coaching of our Girl's Track Team? Since our freshman year, you have given us the incentive to work and to achieve as a team. You have taught us to win as well as to lose with pride. And most of all, you have helped us to realize how important it is to take pride in ourselves and our accomplishments. We feel that the dedication of this yearbook could not have been given to a more deserving person. We will never forget you. Love, The Girl's Track Team Student Life 31 ► ◄ Underclassmen 59 Sports 71 ► ◄ Seniors 95 Table of Contents ◄ Academics 15 Time The Senior class has spent a lot of time here: forty two minutes a period, seven periods a day, one hundred eighty days a year, for four years. From September 1979 to lune I98J they have passed their time, learning, living, playing, acting, reading, singing, dating, dancing, and naving an all around good time of it. Many of them played sports after school, others had part time jobs. Most have, at one time or another: been late, been early, stayed after, stayed home, had an early dismissal or perhaps participated in extra-curricular activities. If you think about it, time has governed our lives at Berlin High — something to consider while spending time with your yearbook. A A look at the clock tells this student that he is going to be late, if he doesn't hurry. Some students like to start off the A day with a first period study. While others prefer to get right to work. ► Editor-in-Chief Lori Drake Lamp Staff What is copy? How do you crop a picture? Mr. Scannell!! HELP!! This is how the production of the 1983 LAMP began. With the aid of our advisor, Mr. David Scannell, the staff and editors dedicated a great deal of time, effort and occasional frustration to the production of this book. Our goal has been to recreate high school, as we have lived it, in the pages of this yearbook. We have tried to capture the important moments as well as the everyday happenings. The staff and editors of the 1983 LAMP are proud of this recording of our class's history and hope that it will help supplement your memories of Berlin High School. ◄ Paula Gozzo, Janet DeMay, Tammy Tighe and Katie Veley collaborate to find that perfect layout. ▲ A group of staff and editors come outside to add some glamour to the front steps. ◄ LAMP entrepreneurs consider entering the restaurant business after their Berlin Fair salad bar was such a success. Mrs. Mary Ann Miklos continues her excellent performance again this year as Business Advisor to the 1983 Lamp Yearbook. Her job is to oversee all the business transactions and to advise the Business Editor, Bruce Boscolo, and the Advertisement Editor, Thomas Recck. With the constant supervision of Mrs. Miklos, both have done a remarkable job handling the business aspects of publishing the 1983 Lamp and have kept the cost of the Yearbook at the same low price as last year. The staff greatly appreciates Mrs. Miklos's help in keeping the Lamp in its good financial status. The staff of the 1983 Lamp Yearbook is proud and fortunate to have as its Literary Advisor Mr. David Scannell. His job is to advise and to assist with problems involving layouts and organization of the Yearbook. Mr. Scanners initial objective was to get the newly-elected editors organized and familiar with the Yearbook procedures. Once this was accomplished, Mr. Scannell served strictly in an advisory capacity, letting the editors and the staff assemble the Yearbook themselves. For the staff, working on the Yearbook has been an enjoyable experience, for which Mr. Scanners help is greatly appreciated. BUSINESS 167 Mrs. Miklos, Business Advisor, goes over the books. As the light from a distant star; Our sun Fades off into the dark of night. We say goodbye, we must move on, Our memories in mind. Our futures in sight. Diana Sachetti 168
