AL PELLIGRINELU Physical Education WILLIAM RICCIO Mathematics Mathematics The Math Department has greatly expanded its program in the past four years with the arrival of the new computer sys- tem which is used for both daily attendance and report cards. Intricate programs were devel- oped by Department Head, Miss Peterson, Mr. Bates, and advanced math students so that the school runs smoothly with the computer’s assistance Many members of the department’s faculty devote much of their time to activities such as running the computer system, advising the Math Team, and coaching sports such as football and wrestling. More advanced courses in math- ematics and a new introductory computer course designed to expose even more students to computers are being planned. Social Studies Social Studies continues to be a popu- lar area ot study with nine hundred stu- dents enrolled in the eleven course offer- mgs The two courses in greatest demand are the American History course and Ancient and Medieval History, taught by Mr Goodrow Many freshmen quickly learn the art of taking notes in this course which is now held in a lecture room due to its heavy enrollment The traditional history curriculum has been augmented by such social science electives as Sociology, Modern Interna- tional Relations and The Nature ot Orien- tal Civilization Marriage: A Litestyle, a popular senior elective, explores such critical areas as family planning, budgets, child raising, divorce, retirement and death By offering such a wide range of courses, the Social Studies Department helps Berlin High students prepare not only for future course work but for life afler high school EDWARD GOODROW Department Head SUSAN DANIELS Community Studies VIOLET MURPHY U.S. History MORTON DONDES U.S. History GEORGE HALL Sociology 21
