Freshmen Class officers: Brenda Stabert, Treasurer; Mr. Stanley Brittingham, Class Advisor; Kim Kuhnly, Secretary. Standing: Tina Simeone, President; Sue Kristopik, Vice-President The Class of 1981 joined the hustle and bustle of Berlin High on September 7, 1977. Tina Simeone, Sue Kristopik, Brenda Stabert and Kim Kuhnly were elected class officers. Under the advisorship of Mr. Stanley Brittingham the freshmen year began to take shape. Their fund raising drive was kicked off with the traditional magazine drive which was an enormous success. The single day allotted for Initiation was a day enjoyed by most and carefully observed by the school administration and the Board of Education. It began early in the morning with the worried freshmen, dressed as Supermen and Wonder Women, being taken to area restaurants for breakfast by their Big Brothers and Sisters. As the day progressed, the freshmen learned that Initiation is a fun event designed to bring the oldest and newest members of Berlin High together, and they even enjoyed performing the antics demanded of them. Freshmen and Seniors both felt a twinge of disappointment when the two o ' clock bell sounded the end of the school day and the festivities. Initiation was officially closed with the annual Senior Court and dance. Kim Valentine was chosen to represent the Freshmen class at Homecoming. A farewell breakfast for the Seniors ended a very hectic first year for the class of 1981. 28

High on this mountain The clouds down below I ' m feeling so strong and alive From this rocky perch I ' ll continue to search For the wind And the snow And the sky I want a lover I want some friends And I want to live in the sun And I want to do all the things that I never have done. Sunny bright mornings And pale moonlit nights Keep me from feeling alone Now, I ' m learning to fly And this freedom is like Nothing that I ' ve ever known I ' ve seen the bottom And I ' ve been on top But mostly I ' ve lived in between And where do you go When you get to the end of your dream? Once in a vision I came on some woods And stood at a fork in the road My choices were clear Yet I froze with the fear Of not knowing which way to go One road was simple Acceptance of life The other road offered sweet peace When I made my decision My vision became my release.
