THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM from Man of La Mancha, Joe Darion (lyrics) Mitch Leigh (music) To dream the impossible dream. To fight the unbeatable foe. To bear with unbearable sorrow, To run where the brave dare not go. To right the unrightable wrong. To love pure and chaste from afar. To try when your arms are too weary. To reach the unreachable star. This is my quest, To follow that star. No matter how hopeless, No matter how far, To fight for the right Without question or pause, To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause. And I know if I’ll only be true to this glorious quest. That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when. I'm laid to my rest, And the world will be better for this. That one man scorned and covered with scars. Still strove with his last ounce of courage. To reach the unreachable star. (C) 1965—by Andrew Scott. Inc., Helena Music Corp. Mr. Frugale has devoted much time and energy to our progress and betterment and he has advised us wisely and well during the past four years. There is really no way we can adequately reward him for his faith in us and his efforts on our behalf. As a token of our deep appreciation and our feelings we dedicate this yearbook in his honor. 2 To The Class of 1967: Your search for some hallmark by which you can be remembered has been a source of much interest to me. Let me tell you why I am impressed. In planning and staging the various traditional senior activities, you have chosen not to try and exceed what other classes have done. Instead, you have chosen to maintain your own identity in these matters. Additionally, you have discovered that a vibrant class spirit depends more upon serious productivity rather than on frolic. You will be remembered longest, however, as the first class to exhibit a very evident sense of stewardship for the school as a whole. The school will always be indebted to you for this very significant contribution. Best wishes for a very happy future. Robert P. Long Principal 3 SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS Mr. George W. And yet we think the greatest pain's to die. How strange it is that man on earth should roam, And lead a life of woe, but not forsake His rugged path; nor dare he view alone His future doom which is but to awake. —Keats 48 CLASS HISTORY We entered the Freshman year with enthusiasm and apprehension. For the first few days, Berlin High School appeared to be a maze constructed to bewilder us all. The Seniors didn't help matters. We tried a mass surprise attack as Saucermen, but we still had to yield to their power. Freshmen were found many a time on bended knee proposing to flagpoles and trees. After the excitement had passed, we found ourselves in the midst of football season. For Homecoming we were proud to be represented by Leslie. The Magazine Drive was our first big challenge as the Class of '61. The year went along too fast—Midyears were upon us, and before long, so were the Finals. We ended the year by bidding the Seniors farewell in the jungle of Umgowa. One step more up the ladder, one step closer to graduation. The Sophomore year arrived. We felt so experienced after having made it through one year; we felt that nothing was too great a challenge. Then, we had Biology! We didn't have to worry about initiation, at least. Football season came and the air was crisp and cold. Jan was Beautiful as our Homecoming attendant. The Magazine Drive came again—and went. Our football players fought like tigers. Christmas gave us the magnificent production of Amahl and the Night Visitors.” The student body was led into a gym of spiders and spooks for the sophomore dance, Haunted Castle. With the help of advisor Mr. Frugalc, the spooks were successful. Suddenly, we were Juniors! We were battered by the Boston batteries (bricklayer or beautician?) and by the Magazine Drive. But, we were revived by the sight of Jan, our lovely Homecoming attendant. As autumn grew into winter, we prepared for our prom, Gone With the Wind.” Oh, those paper flowers! Linda, the lady of our Southern manor, was escorted by Rich. Later, we proudly received our class rings. On that last day before vacation, we sat in the court for the first time and planned for our most important year. 50 Finally, we had reached our Senior year—a year of decision. We could walk in Senior Court! As Seniors we introduced Pebbles and Bam-Bams to Berlin High with lolli pops, pony-tails, and jumping-jacks. The Berlin Fair found football players and Mr. Frugale pitching horseshoes for apples and stuffed animals. During the Magazine Drive, we lost our court for a day to those freshmen (oh, well.) Then, in the excitement of a golden autumn. Queen Chris and attendant Corky, watched our Homecoming Victory. This was the year of college boards and job applications; Eustacia Vye and the court Christmas tree; chemistry labs and child care; and Mr. K.’s cane. President Pete and President Mike rubbed elbows in work and enthusiasm. Seniors sipped soda in the cafeteria. There were tryouts in the Little Theater for our play Night Must Fall.” From plans and preparations emerged the Ball, our own Carousel. Class Night and the Banquet followed. The long anticipated special day arrived. Now with tears and smiles, we graduate from Berlin High School. We face a new world with the unforgettable memories and friendships of our years together. 52 CLASS CHATTERBOXES Rose and Jerry THAT ' IPANA” SMILE Sue and Greg r- CLASS WOLVES Linda and Russ 54 CLASS BLUSHERS: Alana Perkins and Tom Holigan QUIETEST: Nancy Crothers and Noel Foster MOST TALENTED: Dave Contino and Joy Kupfcr FACULTY HEADACHES: Janet Beer and Peter Von Essen BEST DRESSED: Michelle Giovaniello and Boh Paskiewicz MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED: Chris Regula and Henry Chotkowski LAMP STAFF CAPTIONS COMMITTEE: Seated: Karen Lewchik, Pam Rackliffe, Linda Smilnak, Kathy Jedziniak Standing: Joy Kupfer.
