Miss Elizabeth St. Onge DEDICATION Miss St. Onge's personality has played a tremendous rola in the successes of our class during the past four years. She has been willing to give not only of her time but of herself. As our class advisor, we know she has had moments of disillusionment and inspiration. Through all she has always been a source of guidance and friendship. In dedicating our yearbook to Miss St. Onge, we express our deep appreciation for her unending assistance and interest during our years at Berlin High School. The Class of 1966 To the Graduating Class of 1966: You have been thinking and talking a great deal about change and about freedom. You have discovered that change is not a cyclic phenomenon but a controllable product of man’s mind. The nature of freedom has been a little more difficult for you to grasp. You have begun to discover, however, that freedom is not a detachment from all inhibiting forces but a committment to ideas and ideals which have to do with your obligations and responsibilities in a society. The alternate choice is rebellion. Rebellion and freedom are hardly synonymous. Freedom and maturity are synonymous. My best wishes and those of the faculty attend you into the years ahead. It was difficult, however, to make an impression when the seniors had us run about in those ridiculous cannibal costumes. As freshmen, we were for the first time, really involved in a school activity. There was the Pep Rally and Homecoming, with Janice as our attendant. There was our first Magazine Drive. There was Mr. Goodrow to challenge and delight us. Spring brought the sports issue, a walk-out, and a tremendous concern for our school. There was- our senior dance, Aloha, and hours of twisting crepe paper for the decorations. Freshman Year ended so quickly. And we were Sophomores. There was another pep rally to start the year. This was an especially important occasion for us; we had retained our sports program; we had attained an undefeated season and a conference title. Homecoming, with Nancy as our attendant, concluded the wonderful season. 47 This was the year of a neck-and-neck Magazine Drive Contest between the Juniors and us. We almost won! This was also the year of our elephant dance, The Stampede. The elephant, Angelina, an enormous papier mache creation, became our mascot. We were moving beyond the half-way mark in our high school careers. And then it came to pass that we were Juniors. We were abjectly enslaved by a grueling three days of Boston batteries. Later we learned that our futures would be spent as forest rangers and farmers! That year Penny was our attendant for Homecoming. Then, for months, we were involved in preparations for our Junior Prom, The Enchanted Forest. The long-awaited night came and Linda and Rich presided over the Prom. Another milestone was marked when we received our class rings. This was also the year of Mr. Kilgariff’s beard and the year of South Pacific. Another year had passed. 48 At long last we became Seniors. How we enjoyed the first day of our newly acquired stature, cutting through Senior Court even though it took us out of our way! Then came the day when we could avenge the ordeal we suffered three years ago; now we were the initiators. Trolls and witches wandered through the corridors fearfully bowing to our every wish. There was our spectacular booth at the Berlin Fair and the Spirit of ’66. The football season brought us the Northwest Conference title. It also brought a day of selling hot dogs and soda, wading in two inches of Coke and frantically filling orders during half time, an unforgettable experience. Then it was Homecoming again and Sharon was Queen with Jackie as her attendant. College Boards were taken and we waited anxiously for our scores. Then we waited, hopefully, for the letters of acceptance. And we waited . . . and waited . . . Others were planning their careers, jobs, or other training in many different areas, with equal anticipation. Christmas came and the Motif Club decorated a gigantic tree for the Senior Court. There was the little, lost dog who wandered through the classrooms and corridors. There were mad home room sessions before classes. And there were some chemistry laboratory periods we will not soon forget. We worked on our Yearbook. We worked on our class play. And we had fun. Soon it was time for the Senior Ball, Class Night, our Banquet and, the big day, Graduation. Now it is over. Now we re leaving Berlin High, but the happy memories will always be with us. 49 CLASS CLOWNS Judy and Garland MOST CHANGED Paula and Fred HAVE DONE MOST FOR THE CLASS Danny and Elaine MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Janet and Dave FAVORITE TEACHERS Miss Sarra and Mr. Goodrow BEST ALL ROUND Brent and Sharon BEST DRESSED Jacki and Kenneth MOST STUDIOUS Bruce and Peggy FRIENDLIEST Holly and Rich CLASS WOLVES Mike and Carole MOST SCHOOL SPIRIT Candy and Jim ROMEO and JULIET Nancy and Rich 54 MOST ATHLETIC Frank and Susan CLASS BLUSHERS Kris and Danny MOST TALENTED Judy and Tom SHYEST CLASS CHATTERBOXES Fred and Marilyn [iuiiiiiiAO' juS'aiBiBasivttv i7!ngiaia itH kfciSMi f: Angelina is watching you! 56 Why did the elephant paint himself red? yel low ? The Student Council has the same importance to the school as the national government has to the nation. A student council is an organization of students, elected by students, open to all students. Its purpose is to represent the students in all matters pertaining to the school. It is comparable to the state legislature or to the national Congress. Student opinion is voiced through the council; therein it is given consideration. But the council does more than this. Students are given an opportunity to become involved in situations and discussions and to help solve problems which arc called to the attention of the council. 8TUDENT COUNCIL Brent Berti, President; Jim Sylvester, Vice-president; Janice Anderson, Secretary; Janet Beer, Recording Secretary; Joanna Banios, Treasurer. 75 SCIENCE CLUB ROW 1: Dennis Beaulieu, Crane Allen, Donald Lombardi, John Pajor, John Heinzmann. I have often thought that with any luck at all I could have been born a werewolf, because the two middle fingers on both my hands are the same length, but I have had to be content with what I had. I dislike washing myself, and dogs, and noise. I like my'sister Constance, and Richard Plantagenet, and Amanita phalloides, the death-cup mushroom. Everyone else in my family is dead.
