Mrs. Boughton, commercial teacher, has helped us gladly with our work during the seven years she has taught at Berlin Heights High School. During this meeting plans for the annual Homecoming were discussed. A large parade through town preceded the football game. Decorations for home- coming this year were more elaborate than ever before. A miniature goalpost and dummy football player were set up In the gym for the dance. The PPA Parliamentary Procedure Contest was held at Berlin Heights. The Berlin Chapter won the gold medal in this contest. Frank Calhoun won a bronze medal In the public speaking contest held Jan- uary 23 In Bowling Green. The PPA held a scrap drive during March. The annual Father and Son Banquet was held April 3 with the PPA Queen In attendance. During the year the PPA raised eight acres of corn and conducted corn va- riety and fertilizer tests. A land Judging team won the district land Judging contest and participated In the state contest. Charles Whaley and Prank Calhoun were sent to the State PFA Convention In Columbus In 56. Joseph Burnham was the local winner In a project record keeping contest sponsored by the Plrelands Community Bank In co-operation with the Ohio Barkers Association. This entitled him to enter the District contest In which he x aced third. Students from eleven counties competed In the contest. Christmas Party was held on December 17. The sophomore girls put on a skit called ■Puppy Love. In December Loretta Pine won the local and county cherry pie con- test. On February 8, she and Mrs. Buth Bosekelly went to Canton, where Loretta participated In the state contest. Talent Night was held January The P. H. A. girls went to the Flower Show In Cleveland March 11. They sponsored a record hop April 5 Five delegates from Berlin Heights were sent to the State P. H. A. Convention In Columbus, April 26. The chapter participated In a bl - county style show on Kay 7 and sponsored the annual Mother-Daughter Banquet on May 8. A girls' basketball team was organized by the P. H. A. girls with Mrs. Huth Rosekelly supervisor of the team. LATIN CLUB The Latin Club was formed thl3 year by the Latin classes and their advisor. Mrs. Irene Galch. The club Is a member of the Junior Classical League, both the state and national organizations. The Latin Club members went to a convention In Columbus, March 29. As a money making project, they sold Christmas candy over the Christmas holidays. An assembly program was given by the Latin classes April 15, opening Latin Week. Exhibits were placed In the library during that week. A Roman Banquet was held In the school cafeteria May 11. Berlin was defeated In the Erie County Tournament by Huron. Berlin's record for the season was five wins and two loses. Berlin wrapped up their third straight Huron-Erle track title In 1956, outscorlng their closest opponent, Wakeman, to , In competition with five other teams. Berlin posted ten firsts and five seconds, with Charlie Hoffman leading the Tigers with two firsts, one In the 100 dash and In the high Jump. Among other meets were a triangular meet at Vermilion In which Berlin placed second, one at Norwalk In which Berlin was runner-up, and one here In which Berlin placed first. After accomplishing the win of the Huron-Erle title, Berlin competed In the district meet at Mansfield. Berlin was runner-up In Class B competition. Those who qualified for the state meet were the 880 relay team of Jerry Howells, Dean Kraus, Neal Horwedel, and Dewey Acord; mile, Ted Baker; high Jump, Charlie Hoffman; and discus, ueorge Hoag.
