Berlin Central School The 1987 Mountaineer Is Dedicated To: t A friend is someone who cares at all times good and bad: someone who has the patience to listen to you and your problems. A friend is someone who likes you for who you are. Stacy Wager Always a shoulder, always a hand, always trying to understand; always a smile, always a tear, lets us know it will always be there; always there to help each other out, and promises we will never shout show how much we really care and that our friendship is very dear. Roxanne Carelli DlNKfi ACKSH Friendship to me means being able to share things, being able to be together in good times and bad. Friendship is always being together. Tammy Phillips Realize how special friendship really is! Without friendship, there is no comfort, love or caring at the times we really need it. Always be thankful for your friends and let them know you care because without them you would be nothing. Pauline Myers Good Friends Friendship is being able to tell someone pri- vate things without them being repeated. Being a friend is being there when you are needed most even if there is something you would rath- er be doing. Deneen Gardner Friendship means being there and trying to understand and help. Friendship means every- thing in life. Katie dodges Friendship means being there even when what you're doing isn't so stylish. Robin Favour We Salute You . . . These teachers are honorary seniors because they've been in school for so long; it seems as though they should have graduated long ago. We, the graduating class of 1987, commend them for their years of out- standing patience and willingness to put up with so many classes for so many years. They have given sub- stantially, through much time and effort, to many stu- dents' educations. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts. The Senior Citizens Of 1987 After a suspense-filled vote, the verdict was giv- en . . and WE WON! Stu- dents and staff rejoiced. The new school will bring many promises for the future graduating class- es. This school has been cramping our style for years and now, finally the moment we've been wait- ing for . . . the go ahead for a new school! Rejoice! Having Fun And Creating Memories With Our Friends At B.C.S My greatest fear is that I will be out in the world and they'll tell me that my diploma is void: I didn't really graduate! I will be dragged back to B.C.S. in chains. As I watch them tear my di- ploma into shreds; they'll say: YOU MUST START ALL OVER AGAIN!! D.G. My greatest fear is not being able to find a job after graduation, and I most look forward to get- ting married. S. to'. My greatest fear is that things will never be the same again. I'm afraid that the things that are so important now will not matter then, and that friends we love will be far away. R.C. My greatest fear about my future after high school is that I'm not going to know what I want to do. and I will end up doing nothing for the rest of my life except partying and just hanging around. S.M. My greatest fear after high school is that I will be captured in an airport by moslcm terrorists and spend the next twenty years being a slave goat herder. What I look forward to the most is finding out there is life after B.C.S. D.h. My greatest fear about my future is that I'll TAIL and be back again next year! n.L. I look forward to living a full, fun life with a good education; but I most fear not being able to stick to my goals. I'm afraid that I II fail in what I want to do and I II stop try- ing and do nothing for the rest of my life. ft.M. SENIORS Jeff Beaudry Motorcycle riding college (law enforcement). It was an away game at Heatly High and we were looking forward to beating them. The home game had been close but we had won. So we started out very eager and determined to win. We were ahead by five at the end of an exciting first half. When half time was over, we knew that if we could keep our heads in the game we could take these guys with ease. Then came the two final and longest minutes. It was tied up in the fourth quarter when Heatly fouled which gave us the opportunity for two easy points, how, up by two in the final seconds, a Mountaineer fouled one of the Heatly players. It was one and one. He made the first shot but missed the second. With three seconds remain- ing, we ran out the clock to win 69 to 68! Chip Shumway BERLIN ' 45 The game against St. Patrick's was a close one. We won 103 to 93. Buddy Stowell scored in the double figures and Joey Maynard and Ke- vin Harrison were right up there also. It probably was the most ex- citing game of the season. A game to be remembered was the game against Germantown. We played together as a team and took some good shots. We also played well on defense. It was a home game and we won. Hick H. Varsity Basketball 1st row: C. Shumay. R. Jewitt, K. Harrison. R. Wagar, R. Stowell. D. Fougere. 2nd row: J. Burdick, M. Ellis, M. Ligotti, G. Avery, J. There was a lot of fun along the way but on the court, they got serious. The varsity team consisted of four seniors and seven juniors. They stuck together and put forth their best efforts. A few new members joined the club this year and we quickly converted them into ski bums. Although there was no trip to Killington, the underclass- men are looking forward to going next year . . . Everyone would like to say thank-you to Mr. Goldstein for his time and effort. Without him, this year would not have been nearly as much fun. Don't forget to THINK SNOW! Kelly Yerg I GET HIGH ...ON SKIING lilii It Ii' Off The Ground! I will never forget our first basketball game this year against Darrow. We made complete fools of ourselves when we ran out on the floor and ran back in because no one was sure quite where to go! The problem was that we had never practiced running out before; so when the time came, no one knew who went first. The captains were yelling for Stephanie to run out first but she didn't know where to go, so Cheryl start- ed out. It ended in total em- barassment because we fi- nally ran back into the bleachers trying to hide be- hind each other and every- one in the bleachers clapped! Since that mistake, we have improved greatly. S.0. Varsity Cheerleaders C. Maxon, G. Dunn, K. franze, C. Yerg, V. Esquivel, S. Dombrosky, M. Desor- meaux Bottom S. Messina. But. it is not too bad as long as you act cool and hang loose, oh. and do your homework! Carrie McMillan As our Junior year draws to a close, we realize that next year we will be making alot of major decisions concerning college, oc- cupations and life itself. Tor many of us, the fear and worry has already begun to set in. At this point in time, it become much more meaningful to reflect on earlier years. For instance, remember being in eighth grade? ... As an eighth grader, you respect the Seniors so much and really try to be their pets' ... even though they treat you as if you are their door mat. The realization that they are only a few years older than you makes you wonder what it is that they have? Of course, the complicated answer to this question is found only by following that long, tedious path through high school. The general consensus for the ninth grade memory is that one is lost in the shuffle. It is not until the end of the tenth grade that you actually begin to adjust to high school life. By then, you have probably survived Biology class (although you swear that you'll never eat another egg). In fact, you actually hear yourself conversing with Juniors! This year, as Juniors, the work load has forced us to mature and the pressure is on. Seniors have begun to look upon us as equals... but not quite. The message we get is that next year we will become afflicted with “Senioritis , its major symptom be- ing irresponsibility. In Remembrance Matt and I Knowing Matt close was a special feeling for me. Matt had a special spot inside just for me and no one else can touch that. We loved each other very much; we were very close. Matt never made plans to do anything; he always just let it happen on its own. He never cared about what was going to happen tomorrow; just a way to get through today. Matt and I would have long talks. One day, he told me that he was afraid to be eighteen. He was afraid of the responsibility. 1 guess that was partly my fault. Whenever he would need something, I would do my best to get it for him. He always wanted me there to back him up when things were important and I was always there. Matt loved us all in special ways. He was a loveable guy. He was a character! He was the only person that could make me laugh. He was my best friend, my buddy, and my big brother.
