We would like to remember three people in our “school family ’ whose lives were tragically taken on icy roads this school year. Theae people should be remembered as they would have wanted it; not wiU| tear-filled eyes but with smiles: smiles that represent the good times apd the things these people stood for. m 7 f H Most of us knew Fred and Patty Organ as a result of their involvement in school activities. They attended various sporting events, music programs and dinners. If they were not directly involved, they were there support- ing and encouraging us. Fred can be remembered complimenting the chef at the Spaghetti supper chairing the “Gifted and Talented Commit- tee” so that students with special abilities could get the opportunity to make the most of them . hitting a homerun-on the Echo League softball team . helping a student in his fifth grade class discover that he really can solve that math problem Patty, his wife was a caring, gentle person. She was genuinely interested in those around her. She showed this when helping a student in Special Education, that student got a part of her gardening (her hobby) for someone who was not physically able to keep the weeds out John Laws was a quiet sort of person with many talents. He had been teaching art at the three elementary schools for the last seven years. He stimulated the children and made them really believe they could be a Da Vinci or a Michelangelo. Children liked him because he gave them opportunities to do new and different things in the field of art, not just drawing and coloring. Some examples of this were the newly purchased kiln; now children were given the chance to try ceramics the mural on the walls of a relocatable class room at Cherry Plain It is not in our power to undo that which has been done. These three people each in their own way left behind a special memory in the minds of the people they knew. In order to keep their memory alive we must each pass on the lessons learned from them.

DEDICATION We the Class of 1982 would like to dedicate this year’s yearbook to Mrs. Dorothy Gutermuth. Mrs. Gutermuth is a person who gives of her own time to benefit others. Not only is this the trait of a teacher but a friend. She was born in Pennsylvania and later on her family moved to Syracuse. There, she graduated from Syracuse University with a major in Chemistry. Upon graduation she come to Berlin where she taught four years before taking a leave of absence. In 1960 she returned and has been teaching math ever since. She is an example of the true meaning of the word “teacher.” Many take it for granted all her helpfulness, all those afternoons she’s stayed to help them and even the summers she has tutored people. This yearbook is just a way we can thank her and let her know how much we appreciate her. ( j)CW)M y
