Hles axji' O raiumte The memers of the “1967 Graduating Class” are to be complimented for com- pleting the requirements of a secondary school education. This has been done by conscientious efforts on your part with the encouragement of your parents and teach- ers. Because of your understanding of the need for education, 1 feel that you will meet the challenges of a complex society and recognize your responsibilities to humanity. Your proven ability to solve problems, academically and socially, should serve you well in the future. Best wishes from the entire school staff, in- structional and non-instructional. JOIN H. CORNWALL Supervising Principal Behtcatum We, the Class of 1967, wish to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to a devoted and deserving woman for the help, guidance and understanding she has shown us during our high school years. We thank her for advising our class through our Freshman, Jun- ior and Senior years, and for her direction in the publication of the Taconican and in the presentation of our Senior play. We dedicate the 1967 Mountaineer to a most energetic and sincere woman, Mrs. Margaret Fogg. To Mr. David Wander, our class advisor for the last three years. For his enthusiastic support and the help he has given us through many major projects. (Contents Senior Artiliities (Classes Seniors ©rganizations Uchinii Chi’ J tenes iSuperlitemg JJrmripal MR. A big part of the older girls' excitement is that they'll be enjoying the Fair with boys that are beginnings be important in their lives. The youngest sister’s main concern is to sneak up on a crabby woman next door and bite her leg! The girls are also in a state about the love life of their only brother, whom they suspect of ditching his sweet home-town girl for a snob from the East. In the midst of the sisters' humorous maneuvers to rule (or ruin) their brother's new romance. Father finally breaks in with his announcement. He's been offered a better job in New York! This will mean leaving their home in St. Louis and missing the fair! The oldest sister fears it will also mean losing out with the boy she'd like to marry. Father is astounded at the negative reaction and for their own good - or so he feels - he gets stubborn. At this the girls unite for action. Although their strategy almost lands the family in jail they persist in their battle to stay where they’ve been so happy. In a dramatic reversal they finally win through to a solution that not only gets Father the better job right there in St. Louis, but also straightens-out the romantic complications. Just as their celebration of this is getting underway, fire works are heard going off in the distance. The Great World’s Fair has begun! This is one of the most delightful, popular, and charming plays that is published. Advisor Mrs. Margaret Fogg IJmmg America kings’’ THE UNKNOWN I've chosen a path unseen by day. But illuminated in the night. 1 travel alone in times of dark While others wait for the light. Others pass on in hurried flight, Afraid to live alone. Afraid to travel the unlit path. Afraid to try the unknown. The path I've found may have times of grief. It's a taste in my mouth often tart. But I'll follow my destination To satisfaction of worlds apart. Maryann Maxson LIFE Stay, O wind, and do not blow. The leaves of the weeping tree by the harbor have fallen. Months and years, stay in your course. The fair brow and the fresh face grow grow old in vain. Think of man; he cannot stay forever young. There’s the thought that makes me sad. Robert Jansen Richard Sagendorf Four Seniors will have their poems published in the annual American An- thology of High School Poetry, entitled Young America Sings, Douglas Donovan and Maryann Maxson received special recognition with notifica- tion of acceptance. BURY ME WHERE I LIE Bury me and do not weep. No mourners' watch do keep, For under this stone I do not lie Only the shell of me can die. So laugh the corpse is not me. My soul soars the universe free Because I shall live eternally. Douglas Donovan CALVARY KING Twas on a hill that three men met. Each on a cross which he'd been set. But one was there who suffered brave. So that his people could be saved. A thief one was, was on the left. And on the right a beggar deaf. But centralized among these thieves, A King there hung on Calvary. All three one said deserved to die. How little did he stop to find. That blood he shed was not in vain. It cured the ill; it cured the lame. This one was filled with worldly love. And came from Heaven, a world above. President (Officers S. Crandall Vice-President Treasurer------ Secretary------ D. Berlin entered the sectionals last year with a nine win, seven loss record. The first game was with Row-Jan. This was to end the rivalry between these two teams that sea- son. Berlin had beaten them 4-2, and had lost to them 2-0, before the sectional play began. With four-hit pitching of Richard Sagendorf and the strong batting of Carl Sch- mich, Berlin was victorious 5-4 in the nine inning game. Berlin then traveled to Averill Park to play Milne in the final game for the Section II, Class D Sectional trophy. The game was tied 3-3 after six and a half innings of play. A walk to Kieth Jones, Pete Beaudry’s single, and Dick Vincent's perfect sacrifice bunt gave Berlin its first baseball championship in many years. Last year's baseball team not only had a winning season, but made recent school history by winning the Section II, Class D. Sectional Championship. Excellent pitching, along with clinch hitting were Berlin's most important weapons. The pitching staff was lead by Richard Sagendorf, who had seven victories against one loss, Dennis King, who finished with three wins and three losses, and David Maxon, who ended with one victory in four games. The team average was lower than usual. However, Pete Beaudry and Carl Schmich supplied constant batting power, and David Maxon, Ross Bentley and Dick Vincent supplied key hits. This placed Berlin second in the Colum- bia County League with a 4-2 record. Berlin achieved a 6-8 overall record. Berlin's leading scorers were Pete Beaudry with a 24. 5 league average followed by Roy Stowe 11 s 18 point average. The outstanding games of the season would include the two vic- tories over arch rival New Lebanon. A pressure packed overtime game with Roe-Jan was pulled out by Berlin in the waning seconds. Also there was a second exciting meeting with Ockawamick, which was close until the closing minutes. A Berlin victory would have clinched a tie for first place in the league and a berth in the sectionals. Although Berlin’s tallest player was 6'1 , a good hustling ball game provided the team with a few victories.
