jaauivfunoj 9961 Jo ssvjQ ayr Joreworcf C ( ? ors Susan Jones Linda Hicks Linda Stephens We, the class of 1966, as seniors, are approaching a new and different world which is challenging and rewarding. Our experiences as high school students both in and out of school have paved the way for our place in the future. The success we achieve depends not only upon our opportunities, but also upon our in- dividual ambition. We are young adults, aware of the many opportunities of the future and we will accept the challenge of gaining success. It is in the spirit of adventure that we meet the challenge of our future and look boldly ahead to distant horizons. Oecfication We, the class of 1966, take great pleasure in dedicating our yearbook, THE MOUNTAINEER, to a most deserving teacher. Mrs. Dorothy Gutermuth. She has unselfishly given many hours of her time, in and out of school, to offer us advice and assistance. In appreciation and with sincere affection, we would like to repay her in part for all she has done. TICessaye to Jracfuates The entire school staff, instructional and non-instructional, join me in extend- ing continued success to the Class of 1966. You will be faced with a rapidly chang- ing society and we hope that you will continue to broaden your personal and educa- tional background to advance society in the best interests of humanity. A. Milne A warning of death is brought to the master of Red House in the very midst of a pleasant summer house party. Although it is revealed as the prank of a guest, Mark is disturbed and resentful, and the servants are terrified. The next day a violent argument is overheard between Mark and his was- trel brother. A shot rings out, the brother is found dead and Mark has vanished. To the police it seems clearly manslaughter in a quarrel. But one of the guests is an amateur detective and he is not satisfied. When a particularly vicious attempt is made on his own life, he is certain that the case is well-planned murder. The case is hard to solve, for among the guests are a number who might benefit from the death. To the actress, trying for a comeback, there is the threat to the success of her play. The Major has been defrauded of money. Betty and Bill must postpone marriage because of the whim of Betty's guardian; and there are even deeper rivalries and resentments. The identity of the killer is a secret through three acts of close-packed action and suspense, and is finally revealed to be Cayley. Berlin’s Varsity Baseball team of 1965 was helped by both good pitching and good hitting. If fielding had been better the team would have had a much more success- ful year. The overall record was three wins and ten losses. If fielding improves this year, with the return of many letter- men, we can look forward to a successful season. With many hard-fought, over-time games, Berlin usually was victorious, and for the first time in several years we qualified for the sectionals. In the quarter-finals Berlin defeated Mayfield 2 to 1 in an exciting game. The semi-finals drew a crowd of four bus loads of spectators to cheer Berlin on to victory over Hoosic Valley with a score of 1 to 0. Berlin gained a second place trophy in the finals of the Class C-D Championship Game, losing to Greenville 2 to 1. Throughout the game the team fought valiantly and the spectators and cheer- leaders exhibited some of the finest school spirit in the history of Berlin. The slow start may have resulted from the late start in basketball practice due to the sec- tional games of the soccer team. The over-all record was 6-10, with a 5 -7 league record. Despite the slow start, Berlin's zone press was very effective against New Lebanon and Germantown with 76-46, 80-54, scores respectively. The final game of the season at home against Ockawamick was a thrilling one, with Ockawamick out-scoring Berlin 28-10 in the second period, providing them with the mar- gin to defeat us 78-63. The team defeated arch-rival New Lebanon twice; won an exciting overtime game with Ockawamick, defeating them with a score of 40- 39; as well as defeating Roe Jan who earlier in the season had defeated powerful Ichabod Crane.
