Psalms 32:8a Ernest Palmer President's Message A great honor came to me when after my retirement from the active past- orate of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. and subsequent interim pastorates, l was called to and accepted the Presidency of Berkshire Christian College. I appreciate and admire the members of the staff who perform their de- tailed duties with an efficiency, enthusiasm and cheerfulness that radiates Christian grace. l respect the members of the faculty for their true piety, their sacrificial service, their scholarship and their consummate skill in communicating their knowledge in the classroom and inspiring and motivating the students to be diligent in study. l thrill to see the students, young men and women, direct their strength and talents through channels of controlled consecrated effort to prepare them- selves physically, morally, intellectually and spiritually for a lifetime of Chris- tian service where God directs them. Campus chaos will never be the problem when and where students are consecrated to Christ. President Ernest Palmer I 0 fffgfng-Qi' tl tLQfrvLcf'7,-f Dean of Student's Message The one indispensable element of a college is the student. Colleges and and universities are created for him. But just what is a student, anyway? ls he only a person who studies? Some do diligently - others don't very much. It seems to me that essential in a student is a kind of spirit. This shows itself in enthusiasm, curiosity, eagerness, dedication, vociferousness - a blend of attitudes which reveal the student as one being really alive! Many students today seem to be rebellious, cynical, negatively oriented in and against society, and interested in anything but being truly educated. It is not so here at Berkshire. The difference? Christ! We are thankful that here we have Christian students - ones who rea- lize that the curriculum, the varied activities, and the policies of the college have been developed over the years by dedicated people to enable young people to grow rapidly toward maturity and the realization of their chosen goals of Christian service. We thank God daily for our students! C. William Bailey Dean of Students 'ical KENNETH LEIST Business Manager G. II Timothy 4:7 - Appreciation V --Q k'-Q., , l In li' Dear Prof. Roberts, All of us in the class of '69 wish we had more to leave you - something spe- cial that could begin to tell you how much we have appreciated you these four years. We have depended on your sound advice, your loyalty, your optimism and cheerfulness, your confidence ln us, and your deep abiding faith. We sort of took it for granted that you would always be at the class meetings, always be in the stands wearing your Berkshire sweatshirt, and always say the things that we needed to hear. Perhaps there were times when we forgot to say thank you - and that is what this is for - to try to show you our love and ap- preciation. Our prayer is that, with God's help, we may mirror your same zest for life, wisdom, kindness and outstanding Christian character. Thank you, Prof. Class of '69 Senior 0, Class Officers President Brian Flynn Vice President Jim Gilroy Secretary Phyllis Rand Treasurer Ray Marco Chaplain Jerry Sims The Fall of 1965 found many new faces from all over the country meeting on the campus as the freshman class of BCC. We never thought we'd make it this far but here we are, the Senior class of 1969. We've lost quite a few of our original class but we've gained almost as many as transfer students. We've come to train for the fields we've been called to. From our class will go out ministers, missionaries, teachers, and social work- ers, to serve the Lord where He leads. We've had four full and wonderful years here. It will be sad to leave this cam- pus and all the close friends We've made but we know that we will not be far apart as we strive to serve the Lord. Across the United States from the pine hills of Maine to the Buck-eyes of Ohio, up from sunny Florida and down from French-speaking Quebec, come the members of the class of 1970. With our class gaining and losing members, we are still one of the larger classes. The Junior class has found many ways to serve the Lord through sports, singing, and working in organizations. Going through the list we find members of the Junior class on the soccer, basketball and baseball teams, yell-leaders, Gospel teams, choir members, Homecoming Queen and candi- dates, officers and members of Missions, Ambassadors, Student Government, Yearbook, maintenance crew, dinig hall staff, and Dean's List. Before Christmas we felt a burden to help a former member of the class. We sent Bryan Martin Bibles and Some of those Junior candy bars to use in his witness while he is stationed in Viet Nam. And who could forget the Junior Halloween Party with the ghost walk and the Great Pumpkin. And the vow that we'll find when and where the Seniors are bound for on their Senior Sneak. Sophomore Class As the freshman class of 1971 entered the scene of Berkshire Christian tollege, a variety of talents and a strong desire to work was witnessed. When these students became Sophomores their desire to work had to -emain strong for their were many things to be accomplished before the ear ended. In October, 1968, the class gave a welcoming party for the incoming reshmen and transfer students. The social was a great success and a sense f fellowship was created. This being the year for the class to sponsor the Annual Sweetheart 'estival, it was also necessary to sponsor projects for raising money. Slave ay set a record for the amount of money raised and a food sale was held Great Barrington to supplement this amount. The theme for the Sweetheart Festival which was held on April 18, 1969, .ras Roman Holiday. As we enter the third year of our college career, many of us will be making 'ur life time decision as to what area of life the Lord is calling us into. After initiation week and kangaroo court we had a better idea. We have a large representation of students from the south this year as well as from New England. We sponsored the Christmas party, which was held at the Berkshire Country Day School. We have come to train for whatever work the Lord would have us go into. We have also been working on plans for an area wide youth service in seven of the denominational camp grounds in April. We also have had teams go into the differ- ent nursing homes in the area on Sunday afternoons to hold services. We praise the Lord for the areas of service that He opens to us and we pray that we may go all out to honor and glorify Him. Student Foreign Mission Fellowship The Student Foreign Missions Fellowship is Berkshire's branch of the Inter-Varsity Chris- tian Fellowship. The or- ganization has as its goal the, promotion on campus of concern and senfice for foreign mis- sions and carries out this goal in a variety of ways. The main event of the year is the sponsor- ship of the annual Mis- sion Conference in November. Other proj- ects for 1968-69 have included: the contin- uance of Tuesday night Vespers services, Thursday night mis- sion prayer meetings, street meetings with the Salvation Army, a missions bulletin board, correspondence with several foreign missionaries, a Penny Crusade for Advent Christian Missions, work with a Korean Or- phanage, sponsoring of mission films, and oth- er participation in out- side mission society events. Youth Conferences are organized and carried out by a cabinet of students with faculty advisors. Each year after the conference the cabinet elects two co-chairmen for the coming year. The co-chairmen then select members to fill the vacancies that have occurred within the cabinet. One hour Christian Education and field work cre- dit is given to cabinet members who participate and are faithful in atten- dance. While only a limited number of students actually plan the conference, every student finds himself involved before and during that first weekend in May. For some time friends of Berkshire Christian College have visualized a radio ministry centered on campus. In the summer of 1968 several seperate people became concerned that the time was ripe to make the effort. Upon returning to campus they were encouraged in sharing their mutual interest, and prayerfully examined the possibilities. A committee was formed, cor- respondence was begun, equipment was gathered, and both students and faculty expressed support. Bill Ricker from down east became chief en- gineer, donating his knowledge, experience, and equipment. Negotiations are still going'on, and the program is still being formed. The committee is drawing up plans for radio ministry training for Christian Education and ministerial students. At present a tape library and studio are being put together. Soon, Lord willing, this area of Western New England will have Christian radio broad- cast distribution over the local stations throughout the denomination. Mr. Fred Renich, Director of Missionary Internship in Detroit, Michigan, served as special speaker for spiritual emphasis week, October 21-24. His ministry combined messages on practical Christian living with personal counseling. His beaming smile and dry sense of humor, but most of all his hum- ble dedication to his master, Christ Jesus made him a dynamic evangelist. Throughout the week he challenged each person to be- lieve that God loved him in spite of failures and limitations. God knew what he was get- ting when He chose you was an encourage- ment to each of us. Mr. Renich also made a lasting impression on us all as he spoke concerning the vanity of possesions. Whose things are they? made each student stop and question his own life's values. We praise God for having had the chance of sitting under the preaching of such a man of God and pray that because of that week we might walk a little more closely to our Savior for the rest of our days. Dynamic and heart rending mes- sages were also felt as the various dis- plays were viewed. In winning order, they represented the Soph's who pre- sented needy U. S. The Fighting Knights closed their 1968-69 bas- ketball season with a 10-14 record. After getting off to a slow start by losing the first three games, the Knights won 8 out of the next 10 games. Probably the highlight of the season was the game against Phila- delphia College of Bible, with only minutes remain- ing in the game the Knights were 11 points down and with hustle and determination the team fought back to send the game into overtime, and won by four points. The spirit of never giving up has been dem- onstrated in every game. United Diversity As the group's name suggests, this musical- evalgelistic team has found the new life in Christ to be one of per- J fect joy and peace. lt is this experience they seek to share with all unto whom they min- ister. The group, which was organized in January of 1968, has travelled ex- tensively in New Eng- land and Canada and has participated in such events as: regular church senlices, evan- gelistic crusades, Fa- ther - Son Banquets, Sweetheart Banquets, gl .Q various social events, and Youth Conferences . and retreats. Members of the team include: Gail Warren, Brenda Hardway, El- len Waning, Margaret Downs, Roy' Morrison, Roger Brown, Ray Mar- co, and Bob Story. It has been the privelege o fthe group to work under the direction of Prof. Warren Whitney. With thankful and thrilled hearts, the New Life Singers consider it a blessed opportunity to represent Christ and Berkshire in this way. The United Diversity was formed primarily to reach ,teenagers through music with today's sounds. The theme of the group is expressed in the name: members diverse in back- ground, interests, and talents, butl united in Jesus Christ. The group is composed of eight members Kfour men and four womeni and a variety of musical instruments. Faculty ad- visor is Professor Frank Johnston. Music forthe U. Many will see and fear, And put their trust in the Lord. Ps. 40:3 The Grace Jubilaires consist of a women's trio and a men's quartet. Truly God has been good to our team, giving us many opportunities to sing and to preach God's word. Our min- istry has ranged from the sun- ny South to the wintry land of Canada. Our style of music is South- ern Gospel , a type of music that is new to the school.
