( Sh e r r y A . ne de i ro s Head Teacher ■C t-rO CLASS HISTORY There is only little remembered about the younger grades, it ' s almost all but a mirage now. We did learn a great deal and had alot of fun but since we were young, most details have been forgotten. Some of the little images we do remember though are that of the good times. In the younger grades we had class trips, unlike now. We also used to have recess, but we had to watch out though. If we got in trouble they ' d be taken away. Another clear memory is about our lunches. When we were young we would always fight over Who had the best lunch box. To avoid these fights, alot of us just brought dinky little paper bags, since our appetite wasn ' t too big then, and, boy, have things changed in that respect It took awhile, as we remember, to get used to school and the changing of subjects and teachers but we always adjusted well. The school was a big illusion to us then but now it ' s just a small school. Though v e may remember some little things we definately don ' t want to forget our patient teachers. We would like to thank, Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Delano, Mrs. Martinez, Mrs. Pugliese, Mrs. Keane, Mrs. Gay, Mrs. Moskal, Miss Pillsbury, Miss Hadley, Mrs. Hose, Mrs. Cormier, Mr. White,, Miss Rouleau, Mrs. Outlaw, Mr. Smith and a very special thanks to our principal, Mr. Canuel, our secretary, Mrs. Francisco, our nurse, Mrs. Deal and to all the teacher aides that all helped keep us in order. To them all we express our thanks. In the year of 1981, our mirage shifted to the optical illusion called Junior High. We were finally leaving Berkley Elementary behind us. Little did we l r ' iow that we ' d soon be back into that school. Arriving in this illusion, we discovered that many things were diffrent. We were no longer the top notch in the school, we could no longer call younger students puny , for we were the puny ones. We met new friends and new teachers. Our teachers helped us through some tough times. Our school was, but colorful, with arrows tilling us which stairs to go up and down. W§ also had some other rules, some we didn ' t like, that help us. At least thats what our teachers said. A block was placed in Miss Medeiros ' room, which you had to carry to the bathroom during classes, you had a very big problem if the block wasn ' t there. In the 1982 school year, we discovered that we would be going back to the dreaded Berkley Elementary School. For a long time the school read Berkley School. No one knew what our schools name was. What was happening? We were back here again. It wasn ' t as crowded at this school, as the other. We got used to this atmosphere once again. We had many funny experiences in 1982. The funniest, which wasn ' t funny to Miss Medeiros, was held a couple of days before the end of the year. We had a terrible food fight. The eighth graders got penalized by not going outside during the tremendous heat. We seventh graders got the worst of it. We couldn ' t go outside either, and we had silent lunch the remaining days. Al so for musicians there was SEMSBA. A special organi- zation in South Eastern Massachusetts. Students auditioned and were nervous, but indeed happy with the results. We also put on a dance for the seventh, it turned out to be very amusing, but a lot of fun while performing. This year began again in September of 1983. This time v e were much more excited. We were eighth graders . We were no longer puny . After selling what seemed like a million candy bars, we finally got our lockers. This definately had to be an illusion. The lockers were bright orange against yellow walls. This year had proved to be very interesting. V e had car washes, and the 8th graders - put on dances to raise money for graduation, lockers, and the Status of Liberty. Under Mrs. Stillers directions, the dances worked out well. Also in this year we realized we were not going to Taunton High, but to Somerset High. In closing we would like to give a special thanks to Mr. Smith. The class of 84 were his first students to graduate while he was teaching in Berkley. He helped us through our musical problems, such as S.E.M.S.B.A. auditions, Somerset auditions and band problems. As we step out of this mirage we would like to say Thank you to: Hr. Ernest Cardoza, Mrs. Jean Dean, Mz- ' s . Dianne Ix)bo, Mrs. Nancy Johnson, Mr. Edward Rafferty, Ms. Sherry Medeiros, Mrs. Janet Outlaw, Mr. Alden Smith and Mrs. V ilson. A special thanks to Mr. Latham, who helped during Mrs. Lobo ' s absence. V e would ] il:e to give a special thank you to our principal and secretary Mr. IVdward Canuel and Mrs. Monica Francisco TO THE CLASS OF 1984 We would like to say Good Luck . Some of us will be together in following years. Some of you are new friends and some go back to kindergarten. Some of us will be going to Somerset, or Bristol Plymouth, and still others to Coyle Cassidy. Again we say Good-bye, and Good Luck . To the upcoming 8th graders, we the class of 1984 want to wish you happiness, and good luck in your final year at Berkley Middle School, Acknowledgement We the class of 19 8 4 wou Id 1 ike to exp r ess graditude an d appreciat ion to Mr s . LITERARY SECTION I DEATH As virtuous men pass away, They whisper to their souls to go, Wliile some of their friends do say. The breath goes now, but some say no. So let us melt and make no noise. No tear-floods nor sigh tempest move. When conservation of our joys May prove to the laity our love. by Scott Rose THE UNICORN The unicorn is a fantasy. One that has always mystified me . The lone horn on the head has he , But just how did that come to be? I think long ago, when he had two, He fought with another, it could be true. The fight could have Ictsted cill day and all night, One horn was knocked off, a most sorry- sight. I think that maybe he started a trend. This one horned fellow gained many friends. Then everyone from father to son. Realized two horns weren ' t better than one. This is what I think, it mightn ' t be true. For I and my story are fantasies, too. by .Tracy Chew THE WEATHER The Sun is shining in the west With it ' s colors looking at their best Slowly rising to the sky I see no reason v hy The gray clouds are way up high Covering up the sun to stop it from shine 1 still see no reason v hy The weather man said, It will be sunny today . So rain rain go away by Heidi Santos DREAMS Alone I sit, Concealed in solitude, For as long as I wish. My heart sunk deep in my soul. As I gaze out the window, I stare at the sky, a beautiful Carpet, with millions of holes Cut out to light up the earth below. As I watch I wish I could Escape to the stars. And be rid of the pain and sorrow That fills my soul. I look up again And see a bird in flight, A beautiful white dove, Soaring for the stars. Then, as most dreams must enci. The dove doesn ' t reach its destination, And is forced back to where it started. As I think of this I realize ixiot all dreams come true. by Bonnie Souza HIS FIERY SERVANT I will v alk dowr ' i the dark road. 1 will turn and feel on my face, The kisses of deatli, like scented riiin. For death is a blacl slave with his little silver birds, perclied in a sleeping wreatli on his head. He will tell me, his voice like the crackle of fl How he has tiptoed after me down the ix ad.
