cd h aOHcn CLASS HISTORY I We, the Graduating Class of 1982 began our years in Berkley Schools as the first Kindergarten (taught by Mrs. Zucchi) and held in the basement of the Berkley Public Library. We moved to the Elementary School for first grade. Through the years we worked from one end of the elementary to the other end. Then the day came when we moved to the Junior High School. In September of 1979, we began our first day at the Junior High. We were shy, nervous sixth graders. The eighth grade didn’t help by calling us “puny” (as the year progressed we grew out of it). With all new faces we met, we found a familiar one in Miss Hadley. She had taught us science at the Elementary School. It was her first year teaching sixth grade science at the Junior High. Being in sixth grade we could now play in after school intramurals. We were also able to perform in the Gong Show instead of sitting in the audience. We all had a good time playing and performing. The year came to an end, but never fear for we would be back next year. We came back, but this year we knew what to expect. But, as we got to school we encountered a new face: Mrs. Giannakoulis. She took a seventh grade homeroom and taught English and Reading. Sports came again and some of us joined. Also, the third Annual Gong Show was held. During this time, we had a minor disaster. The oil tank at the elementary developed a leak and the oil ran into the well. Therefore, the cafeteria couldn’t cook our lunches. As a result we had to bring our lunches for a month. The year went by and as all do, it came to an end. When we left we were happy and willing to come back. For we would now be eighth graders!! We came back the next year knowing what would by expected of us. We also knew it would be our last. Knowing what was expected of us we did our share of picking on the sixth graders. We can’t ever remember being that small. They’ll grow. We did. Shortly after school started we met a very special person: Dave McGillvray. With Mr. Lussier’s help and cooperation we helped Dave raise money for the Jimmy Fund. We raised $2,103.25. Our school raised the most money in New England. This is definitely an accomplishment we all can be proud of. Mr. Lussier deserves a special thanks for all his help to make this project work. We had another fund raiser selling book covers for the eighth grade fund. Mr. Drummond donated the covers! Thanks Mr. Drummond! We have had many different activities to raise money for the eighth grade fund. We had a Pancake Breakfast, dances, and a Christmas fair. The money raised will help pay for our trip to New York in April. The person who is responsible for all this is Mrs. Ghilarducci. We want to express our gratitude many times over. A special thanks should go to Ms. Medeiros for giving us her time to be in charge of our yearbook when she really had no time to give. She made it possible for us to have a yearbook when no one else could, due to heavy schedules. Thank you. We will never forget it! We would also like to express our thanks to each and every one of our teachers. For three years you have helped us become mature young men and women. We are now ready for high school and you have helped us reach this point. We will never forget the good times we’ve had with you at the Junior High. To all up coming eighth graders we hope you have as much fun as we did in the eighth grade. Good Luck!! c 24
