The Study of a Enjo able and Educational The foreign language department of Berkley High offers courses in four of the world's major languages: French, German, Spanish, and Latin. In each of these, the students begin by acquiring a background of basic vocabulary words, shift to an emphasis on grammar and sentence structure and then go on to study the history and literature of the language. The use of tapes, records, and the language laboratory adds variety and interest to the language classes, and makes the subject come to life for the students. These aids also improve com- prehension and pronunciation. The process of learning to speak, write, and finally to think in a foreign language is an intriguing experience for high school students.
