Headmaster's Message Mr. Sheppard: Truly, A Talented Class: I have thoroughly enjoyed my association with this year's class. They have proven themselves to be academically talented - they have displayed strong leadership - they are active participants in clubs, organizations, fine arts, and sports. They have certainly won a multitude of individual honors within the school and lof particular notej from organizations outside of the school. The seniors have an excellent college placement record with a slight tilt to the West with three of the top four seniors going to Stanford - and in so doing, one turned down Harvard, one Yale, and the third Princeton. You have established the traditions for this new campus as the first group to spend your four high school years here. I am honored to have been a part of those four years. I have watched with interest the past few weeks as you have gone through such ac- tivities as the Prom, the Senior Picnic, Field Day, exams - AP and regular, the Bac- calaureate Service, the Senior Dinner, Honors Convocation, and now Commencement. Each of these in signaling the end of an important part of your life helped to form a sense of unity and cohesion in your class. Your experience here has strengthened you as in- dividuals. Even though you have had a common experience we could not and would not want to mold you in any set way. The variety of your contributions to Berkeley is evidence of this. The variety of the fine colleges you will attend fthe fifty-eight of you are going to thirty-nine different collegesj is further evidence of your individuality. Centralto your experience here has been your exposure to an oustanding faculty. It is the faculty who are truly Berkeley. Your academic growth and success is indicative of their strength. When you look back upon Berkeley it will be the outstanding faculty here that you will first and most remember.
