ORTS Here at Berkeley High, we ' ve put the green back into sports. Look around. As the winter season sets in, the air is filled with the sporty cries of spectators and jocks alike. Men ' s and Women ' s Soccer reign supreme on our infamous football field; Basketball achieves victory after victory in the Donahue Gym; and upstairs in the Old Gym, the Wrestling Team gets hot and sweaty. There ' s a winter sport for everyone, so whether you get into the action as an athlete or a fan, make sure you don ' t miss out!
Men ' s Varsity Basketball The 1987-1988 Berkeley High Men ' s Varsity Hoop Team finished the season 14-12 overall and 6-4 in league. The Jackets were led by forwards Monsoon Sooon Scherr and Stacy Bailey, center Karl ' Truck McKnight and guards Terrence Allen and Mike Sklut. Although the team was somewhat inconsistent they scored impressive wins over Monta Vista, Mission (to win the Berkeley High Classic Tournament), Pinole, and De La salle. This year ' s squad had incredible spirit and real team unity. When the game was on the line, the players would get exceedingly juiced, and turn up the intensity enough to bring home a W . The best examples of this occurred when the Jackets turned a 32-30 halftime deficit into a 75-60 romp over El Cerrrito, and when they crunched Pinole Valley 78-52. The team finished second in league, and started play in the GBAL tournament at the time of this writing. Opposite Page: Karl Truck McKnight grabs another offensive board.
