Back row (L to R): Kristen McMahon, Sarah Whitman, Gabby Nicholson, Jessica Ratcliff, Charlotte Lee, Gretchen Young, Alison Swift, Alison Packard, Pascha Hansen, Emma Goldman. he women ' s Field Hockey team made up for their lack of points with their boundless enthusiasm. The season began with a tournament in San Jose in which Berkeley played six games. This was followed by a game against University High during which the team scored a goal. The season finished with a tournament sponsored by the Berkeley team at Underhill field, in which the team tied with University at third place. Other opponents were Live Oak and San Jose. The team put in a strong defensive performance this year. Particularlly (but not solely) noteable for their outstanding playing were Alison Packard, the team captain and center midfielder whose good passes and aggressive playing brought the team to many near-goals; Malana Moshesh, goalie who saved countless scoring attempts by the other team, and Lynn Tegenfeldt, who played fullback and lead the team in strong defense. The season was a mind-opening experience for all involved, and , as Gabrielle Nicholson so astutely stated, People ' s true personalities come out at away games! Front row: Lyn Tegenfeldt, Autumn Westbrook, April Westbrook, Beth Goldberg, Melanie Howell, Margaret Soloman, Kirsten Stangeland, Jennifer Matter. Sitting: Malana Moshesh. JHr A --- . ■T. Sr . Berkeley High defeats De La Salle, 61 - 10! The Jackets become the 1 team in California! PSYCH2 Now back to reality, the BHS football team had a less than perfect season. The team managed only two wins, and an overall record of 2 - 8, and a sterling 0 - 5 in the GBAL. The first two losses were due to the lack of experience and poor spirit on the team. But when the Jackets ' first win finally came, it showed the team had potential to do anything, maybe even become a good team! The Jackets came in to league play with a record of 2 - 3. For the first time, the Jackets looked like a real football team. They had the talent ' and spirit to become one of the best teams in the league. But then the grades came out, and many valuable players were cut because they were unable to maintain a 2.0 GPA. The team also lost many valuable players due to injuries and now oonsisted of 31 players. Due to the lack of players, many starters had to play both offense and defense during the whole game. Some players were so devoted, they even played while they were ill and did not admit their illness to the coaches. But the loss of players did not effect the attitude of the team. Every game, the Jaokets had the willingness to win and never gave up hope. Even though they had only two wins, the Jackets played many excellent all-around games. Berkeley ' s defense was led by co-defensive captains Brinston Williams and Lo Grayson, with the help of Aaron Higginbotham , Ethan Elnwohner, Joe The Brick Gorelick, Matt Scola, and Del Johnson. Quarterback and co-offensive captain Jerome Patterson directed the offense, shooting to targets Lamar Cole, Randall Roddy, Brooks Jordan, and Andy Mesones. Opening holes for the running back ream of Lorenzo Franklin, Tavio Carr, and Kevin Taplin was the offensive line, headed by center and co-offensive captain Tony Baby Huey. Baby Huey takes on College Parks version of The Refrigerator. 30 FALL SPORTS
