EDITOR ' S MESSAGE This 90th volume of the Berkeley High School year- book is dedicated to the spirit and tradition of excellence and cooperation that defines BHS. Publishing a yearbook (not to mention an expanded 400 page one!) is a huge job. After attending a yearbook seminar over the summer, assistant editor Kathie Eastman and I came back to school with endless ideas for the book. The result, I hope, is a more artistic, but still traditional, BHS yearbook with an increased emphasis on school-wide input. BHS students have contributed writing, artwork, and photography. There is no way to acknowledge everyone who has contributed and without whom this yearbook would not be complete. Some of the essential people I would like to thank for their support, time, and cooperation are Mr. Dwight Purdy and Ms Debby Goto of Josten ' s American Yearbook Company; Mr. Calvin Harrell, Jr., of Harrell School Pictures; our principal, Mrs. Samantha Lee; our student activities coordinator, Ms. Thelette Bennett, and others in the school administration. Most of all I would like to acknow- ledge the work of our advisor, Mr. Charles Kratz, and the other members of the yearbook staff, who put in hours and hours of work, including weekends and holidays, to take and develop pictures, write copy, perfect layouts, and do all the little jobs, such as alphabetizing and typing, without which there would have been disaster. The purpose of a yearbook is to preserve memories. What I hope for and what I feel will make this yearbook a success is this— if, as you venture through life, when you find that old BHS yearbook in a box in your closet and look through it, the feeling of this school and this time in your life flows back to you. Elizabeth Treadwell Editor -in-Chief 2
