Since this is the first page of The Winning Hand I wish to explain how this name came about. At the start of the year, the yearbook needed a theme, or creative idea, to carry out unity and continuity through- out the book. We, the yearbook staff, voted that, even though cards could suggest that B.H.S. is a gambling school, graphically and logically this theme would be intriguing. The yearbook staff is not just a group of ten or twenty people who are sent pictures and in turn paste them down and send them away to be published. The staff scheduled for, took, and developed every black and white picture in this book. They also designed and adjusted every page with the utmost care, so that the pages would be racially and sexually balanced. But how many of you ever noticed? Why is it that when looking throu a yearbook, people always harp on the few mistakes, rather than the many good things? It angers me that no one realizes, or appreciates the thousands of hours, approximately 3,000, which were put in by each member of the yearbook staff to create this not perfect, but huge, incredible, colorful, inex- pensive, and award winning book. How many of you would be willing to give up 3,000 hours, and receive nothing but insults and five credits? The purpose of my writing here, was not to beg for compliments, by inciting guilt, but to enhance the reader ' s knowledge of how graphically and artistically beautiful this book is. Also, I wish the reader to ap- preciate that this book is a lot more than just pictures. It possesses the writings, and time which many devoted students invested into it. I don ' t believe this book can be rightfully dedicated to one person, or to the entire student body. It can only be dedicated to the general good in all people without which it would not be possible. Therefore, I wish to ded- icate this book to honesty, devotion, cooperation, and love in everyone with whom B.H.S. is associated. To the class of 84: I wish you cill success, but don ' t forget that hfe isn ' t worth it if you are not happy, so don ' t work too hard at whatever you do. To the classes 85, 86, and 87: don ' t let your work get the best of you while you ' re here. Even though you may be treated as insignificant, you are im- portant, and this school wouldn ' t be the same without each and every one of you.
