Fifty-five Berkeley High students dragged themselves to S.F. International Airport before dawn on a cold February day on their way to a week in Washington, D.C. The Berkeley group was so large that half stayed at the Sheriton National in Vir- ginia with history teacher Ms. Young and students from CaUfornia and Delaware, and the others stayed in Maryland with Mr. Teel and a group of deaf students from around the country. The two groups met only once, to hear Representative Ron Dellums and Senator Pete Wilson speak. The rest of the week, the participants were kept busy in seminars with people involved in defense, the media, lobbying, etc. , in workshops,on Capitol Hill, in political discussions and on tours of the monuments and the neighborhoods of Washington. The students thoroughly enjoyed meeting people from other parts of the country and learning about our government Close-Up. 1.
