A The Cheering Squad this year is largest one of the last few years. The Cheerleaders, Pom Pom Girls, and Jacket Girls have done an excellent job of promoting spirit and urging Jacket teams to victory. For the first time, there is a full freshman cheering squad consisting of seven members. In addition, BHS had its FIRST MALE CHEERLEADER AND MASCOT in many years, Rico Saxton and Neal Harrison, respectively. Rico not only cheers, but can be seen doing gymnastics at halftime with the Pom Pom Girls as they go through their routines. 1. Head Cheerleader Beverly Greene sounding out a cheer. 2. More happier and spirited faces fil- led the auditorium, making this year ' s spirit rally the best ever! Excited voi- ces bounced off the walls and vibrated through the air. Coach Bracelin praised his undefeated Soph Frosh squad. ' Now introducing the 1978 Cheer- leaders! ' yelled cheerleader Beverly Greene. The crowd was in an uproar, giving a standing ovation, as out on the stage wearing wigs, balloon stuffed shirts, and tight skirts, revealing hairy legs, stumbled five varsity foot- ball players and their coach Stan. The audience continued to stomp and cheer, as next, out pranced the girl football players, mimicking football exercises and ending in a huddle. One of the biggest suprises occurred when Ms. Bennett introduced a young man new to BHS, who had desired to be in the rally. Presenting himself as Disco Duck, David Chapman did an excellent presentation of modern dis- co dances before the amazed crowd. Coach Nakahara introduced each varsity football player, as applause honored each one for his outstanding performance. Assistant Soph Coach David Tavares then announced an un- usual happening at the rally. He had talked with Ms. Bennett about awar- ding a plaque to a very special person, but little did she know that the person was herself! Uncontrollable excite- ment burst from the crowd as she gratefully accepted the plaque‘‘YOU GUYS WANT TO SEE ME CRY, DON’T YOU?” she said, tears strolling down her face. As a final event, the football play- ers formed a huddle promising to win. 1. The 1978 Football team: Cry- stal Johnson, Beverly Greene, A- drian Washington, Kelly O ' Neal and Phyllis Smith (not pictured). 2. Disco Duck does his stuff. 3. Matt Ryan kicks a field goal. 4. Doctor Watts watches the home- coming game. 5. The seniors cheer for the spirit cup. 6.
