■ Hugh Spitzer ASBHS President This semester, student government has assumed an increasing vital role in the educational progress of Berkeley High. Students are gradually learning that the Associated Students is a useless organization un- less it acts directly to improve conditions in the school for all students. The Associated Students have attempted to involve more people in student government, because the strength of any democracy lies in the participation of its members. More students than ever before have joined ASBHS sponsored clubs, committees, and ath- letic groups. The Associated Students have worked to interest students in the vital issues that affect us all. The fight for progressive student government has been a long and hard one, but we are now assured that the ASBHS will be an organization that exists to protect the welfare of the students. The quality of students in the coming classes shows great promise for active student government, and I dedicate this message to those students, and wish them the best of luck. —HUGH SPITZER Lenny Frenza Vice-President Mr. Wilson Sponsor Board of Control BOARD OF CONTROL Karen Lou Secretary Frazer Perkins T reasurer

The Sex Education Committee distributed its important report on the need of family life courses in the Berkeley schools. The success of this committee has shown that it is possible for students to have effe ct upon curriculum planning. The C urriculum Committee has examined the broad range of course structure and con- tent, and has made constructive criticism in this area. The Assembly Committee, working with the Faculty Assembly Committee, has worked to make assemblies thought-stimulating as well as entertaining. The Publicity Committee has worked to strengthen school pride and acquaint students with the numbers of activities and events go- ing on at Berkeley High. It has brought to- gether students of different backgrounds to work for the welfare of our school. Assembly
