In Memoriam Bob Fatt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Fatt, would have graduated with this class at Berkeley High. He was an exceptional person, and those who knew him liked him and valued him as a friend. It ' s been a long three years, and ninth grade survives as an indistinct memory. But at odd moments during the last three years we have had a sudden thought quite frequently, of Bob, and wished he were around. The wistful musing has been supplanted by a deeper feeling, a conviction that this or that would have been more fun if Bob had been there, or that he would have fitted well into this group, or that he would have been a valuable ally in that cause. In short, life would be livlier and more interesting with Bob in it. We finally realize that something irreplaceable was lost, more important than anything else we have yet known. Bob was an unusual person, and he had virtues which we miss in others. His active, intelligent mind was one of his important qualities. He knew about electronics — he was a ham radio operator, and he built an electric organ. He was interested in psychoanalysis, and classical music. He could be counted on for a sound, logical opinion on anything, and he never missed a joke or an allusion. But the thing we miss most about him is his combination of strength, integrity, and warmth. His relations with others contained a wonderful straightforward honesty, and they were colored by warm friendliness which made him easy to like. Those who knew him better noticed an unusual strength about him. Bob was afraid of neither life nor people, and his self dependance made others trust him. Bob was an outstanding person, and we can only wonder what kind of an adult he would have been. 8 Jonathan Kerman

8913628 At Berkeley High of the present academic building will house the mathematics department. The second floor of both academic buildings will be devoted to the English department and the new library; finally the third floor will be social studies. The second new building, the cafeteria, offers many opportunities for Berkeley High. Underneath the building will be a snack bar which will give many students a place to eat during any kind of weather. The inside of the building will be the cafeteria. It is anticipated that the cafeteria will be used for the social events, replacing the social hall. The architecture of the cafeteria is coordinated with the Community Theater; this will be a beautiful addition to the campus. If, at the end of the construction period, there are any surplus funds, the district will use them to improve the outdoor athletic facilities. The building project reflects the interest and contributions of the citizens of Berkeley. They can be justly proud of this extension to the advancement of the educational opportunities in our city. 7
