New Buildings Throughout this year we have been jumping ditches and dodging machinery, but it has been in a good spirit. We know the end result, a new academic building and cafeteria, will be worth all of our small inconviences. On September 13, 1965, these new buildings will be put into full opera- tion, unless some unforseen obstacle presents itself. At this time the present academic building will be vacated. The reason for this is so that it can be modernized. With the completion of this project, in September, 1966, all the buildings on the campus will again be in use. At this time the bungalows on the slope and near the steam plant will be removed, but the bungalows on Bancroft will probably remain, to be used if the need arises. The second floor of both academic buildings will be devoted to the English department and the new library; finally the third floor will be social studies. The second new building, the cafeteria, offers many opportunities for Berkeley High. Underneath the building will be a snack bar which will give many students a place to eat during any kind of weather. The inside of the building will be the cafeteria. It is anticipated that the cafeteria will be used for the social events, replacing the social hall. The architecture of the cafeteria is coordinated with the Community Theater; this will be a beautiful addition to the campus. If, at the end of the construction period, there are any surplus funds, the district will use them to improve the outdoor athletic facilities. The building project reflects the interest and contributions of the citizens of Berkeley. They can be justly proud of this extension to the advancement of the educational opportunities in our city. 7
