We dedicate this book to three teachers who have taught us well, instilled fine ideals, and have given many years of their lives to this school. They are now retiring, to them we say from our hearts, Thank you. Not enjoyment, and not sorrow. Is our destined end or way But to act, that each to-morrow Find us farther than to-day. Mr. Bellus has devoted thirty-three years of hard work to Ber- keley High. He has taught sheet metal, art metal shop, mechanical drawing, boat shop, and general shop. For the last seventeen years he has been counselor besides being a teacher of Industrial Science. Mr. Bellus attended the University of California, at Berkeley, where he majored in chemistry. Later he received his Bachelor ' s Degree from the University of California, at Santa Barbara. Mr. Bellus, a sea- faring man, coached an eight-man crew, directed the B.H.S. Sailing Club, and, at one time, directed the U.C. Girls Sailing Club.. He owns a farm in the Napa Valley, where he raises Black Angus cattle. Upon retiring he plans to return to the farm and to build boats. In 1936, Berkeley High welcomed a new teacher, Mrs. O ' Neill. In the years to come her name became synonymous with the outstand- ing and always popular noon concerts which she produced. She comes from a musical family. As a member of the Harpist Club she displays her talent as a fine harpist. Mrs. O ' Neill ' s college years were spent at the Julliard School of Music, Mills College, and the University of California. Mrs. O ' Neill ' s friendly disposition is brought out ' not only in her personality but in her nicely kept classroom. Saint Patrick ' s Day wouldn ' t be the same without the overflowing enthusiasm shown by Mrs. O ' Neill. She makes sure that the tradition of wearing green is not forgotten and that this is a day to remember. Easy going, soft mannered Elgin Erickson came to Berkeley High from Utah, in 1926. A graduate from Utah State, he received a Bachelor ' s Degree in Physical Education. While in college, he was active in athletics. Besides being a gym teacher, he has coached Varsity Football, B Football, Varsity Baseball, Cross-Country, and B Basketball. Mr. Erickson ' s coaching career has been quite successful with over one hundred wins as compared to few losses. Untiring devotion to his job has brought forth four B A.C.A.L. championships out of the last five, winning the last two consecutive years. After he retires, Mr. Erickson, a tremendous fly fisherman, will probably be seen fishing at his favorite stream. A long life of devo- ted service and loyalty to Berkeley High have won him the affection of his students.
