Board of Control STEVE JOHNSON President Berkeley High School is one of the Nation ' s best; this is a fact. We have always excelled in whatever we do. Academically, we have earned the respect of other high schools. In athletics, we have a history of victories. Our theatrical and musical groups have won state-wide acclaim. This past semester has been one of particular success. Our band played for the Winter Olympics. The basketball team went to the Gridley Tourna- ment. The Senior Play was a spectacular production. Our dances were well attended. All our spring sports received much more support from the student body than in the past. The B.O.C., which is notorious for going broke in the Spring, did something revolu- tionary. They had a fund-raising project which came out very well. Student body card sales were good, and our yearbook sales reached an all-time high. This has truly been one of the best Spring semesters Berkeley High has ever seen. But all this success did not just come to us by chance. There were many reasons for it. The Board of Control played an important role. They had a job to do and they did it well. The fact that many of its members went so far out of their way to do the best job possible, made this an out- standing Board. The faculty also helped in many ways. The guid- ance and time which Mr. Nealson and Mr. LeTendre gave us, were invaluable. The services of Mrs. Schwimley, Mr. Okerstrom, and Mr. Lutt will not be forgotten. But these are only individuals. Their actions would be worthless without you, the student body. Our success lies neither in the hands of one, nor those of a hundred. It lies in the hands of over 3000 people who call themselves the students of Berkeley High School. It goes without saying, that your sup- port was the real strength of our school this past semester. And in the semesters to come, the success of the school will always lie in your hands. Give it your best and your reward will be rich. I find it difficult to express my feelings toward the office of president. To say it has been the greatest experience of my life is not enough. My appreciation goes deeper than that. I shall never forget you and this honor which you bestowed upon me. STEVE JOHNSON A.S.B.H.S. President 10 WILLIS NEALSON Vice Principal Sponsor

here you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that. — Red Queen in Through the Looking Glass. G O V N M E N T
