peakers bureau A large and competent Speakers’ Bureau crowded many speaking assignments into a term devoted to service to school and community. In the Lions’ Club speaking contest Pauline Morris, Marilyn Varney, Roger Cason and Stephen Henderson represented Berkeley High, with Marilyn Varney also competing in the zone finals. In the Native Sons of the Golden West contest, Marilyn Dill represented the Bureau, speaking on the topic, Earl Warren, Chief Justice.” Red Cross speakers at the various PTA meetings included Betsey Barker, Lloyd Edwards, Steve Henderson, John Mendonca, Carol Nelson, Jo Ann Playter, Sue Seavey, Ann Severin, Virginia Smith, Brjan Thomte, Allen Unsworth and Kirke Wilson. Speakers at American Legion, Post Seven, were Jo Ann Playter, Pete Melvin, Steve Henderson and Marilyn Dill. Berkeley Highlights,” a weekly radio program heard over KRE, is sponsored by the Speakers’ Bureau. Dave Brudney was editor and announcer with Tom Gonser and Sandy Read handling the feature news, and Dick Nicoles and Mike Stewart as engineers. Bureau representatives to the Safety Council were Ardis Wade and John Mendonca. The school projects advocated by the entire Bureau at homeroom, assemblies and in class- rooms included the sale of student body cards and Pods, the Junior Red Cross Drive, Con- servation Week and the new Safety Council fire drill campaign.
